In some instances his teammates failed to take advantage.Darnold took another step toward earning the Week 1 starting job.Teddy Bridgewater: WinnerThe first preseason game could not have gone better for the Jets at the quarterback position. While Darnold’s stats undersold his performance, Bridgewater was every bit as good as his 7 for 8, 85 yards, 1 TD line in the box score.Teddy is looking for another chance in this league. With each step Darnold takes toward earning the starting job Cheap Nathan Shepherd Jersey , it becomes proportionally less likely for Bridgewater that chance will come with the Jets. But he still is getting an opportunity to put together a video resume for the other 31 teams this preseason.To the extent Bridgewater could increase his trade value, a game where he both played well and showed he could take a few hits will do just that. Nathan Shepherd: WinnerThe first string did not get much playing time on either side, but Shepherd looked comfortable with the starting defense and recorded a pair of run stops. He is putting together a strong camp that has earned him first team reps. If he continues to make the most of those first team reps, Shepherd might end up playing a bigger role as a rookie than many of us expected.Neal Sterling: WinnerThe Jets have zero in the way of proven commodities at the tight end position. This is a wide open camp battle. Sterling won round one of the battle, putting together a 4 catch, 38 yard night that would have been bigger had Bridgewater not overthrown him on a seam route in the first quarter. Sterling did leave the game injured so there is some concern. If he can bounce back quickly Lac Edwards Jersey , he probably has taken an early lead for the starting job.Andre Roberts: WinnerThe odds of Roberts making the roster went up considerably in this game. He returned one punt for 10 yards while Trenton Cannon muffed a pair of punts. I wouldn’t call Cannon a loser in this game. He flashed some ability that suggested he might be a part of the offense. He also might even win the kickoff return role. But Roberts might have earned a spot simply for punt returns as a result of this game.Neville Hewitt: WinnerThe Jets have plenty of established inside linebackers in camp so there is some competition for roster spots. Hewitt led the Jets with 8 tackles, had an interception, and nearly had another, making his case to stay.ArDarius Stewart: LoserFor almost every other player who made an error, I can find at least one redeeming play in this game. No such thing exists for Stewart.Sam Darnold threw a near interception in the second half. Many interceptions are the quarterback’s fault alone. On many, the quarterback and the receiver share blame. Very few are solely the fault of the receiver. Had the Falcons picked off the pass Quincy Enunwa Jersey , it would have been one of those rare case. The terrible route Stewart ran was the only reason the pass was dangerous.In the fourth quarter, Stewart had a chance to redeem himself as Darnold threw him a strike down the left sideline, but the receiver was outfought for the football. He’s been replaced with the ghost of Trevor Siemian, but with a much higher priced contract.The lack of accuracy from Keenum is maddening. It isn’t like this was a one-game thing either. Even in KC where I thought the team top to bottom gave great effort, Keenum’s passes were often overthrown and off target.He ends up the day with a nice stat line and QBR, but let’s be real here: Keenum’s play held this offense back all day long and his inconsistencies are lowering all boats on the offensive side of the ball. Joseph needs to put the heat on Keenum and if he can’t perform, he needs to chew bench. If everyone on the front-7 gave as much effort as he does, this defense would be top 5 in the NFL.Royce Freeman is looking tremendously good. I just wish the coaches noticed so he would get more touches...it is an atrocity that a guy like him is being given so few carries.Phillip Lindsay is a true weapon. I love when he gets in space and how fast he goes from 0 to 60 on the football field.Demaryius Thomas played his tail off in this game. He reminded me of Super Bowl 48 where he was the one bright light in a swirling toilet of suckage on offense.Billy Turner should honestly start the rest of the season at right tackle. He looked very good to my eyes.Courtland Sutton is continuing the development of his NFL game and I love it. Both times they ran in favorable downs and distances, though, they got the first, or half the yardage necessary. There’s a lesson to be learned there. It’s not quite “never run,” sorry to that crowd, but it’s definitely not “establish the run” either.Since we’re on Carson, his biggest gain from scrimmage was wiped out on a J.R. Sweezy holding penalty. On the plus side, he qualified for the next Olympics 110 hurdles team.It’s no surprise that on their 14 rushes, Rashaad Penny and Carson were successful only thrice. Yet, somehow, it gets worse. On Carson’s final “successful” run, midway through the third quarter, cheat code linebacker Von Miller helped himself to the football. In other words, almost every running back carry (12 out of 14!) on Sunday was a waste of a down or resulted in a turnover. No wonder Seattle went heavy on the pass, with only 15 rushes to 39 dropbacks.Seeing if Seattle elects to run on more manageable downs in Week 2, making those runs more valuable and less a waste of a snap, is something to watch for.Tyler Lockett’s punt return decisionsIt isn’t Pick-on-Tyler-Lockett week. He got the Seahawks fully back into the game on the second play of the fourth quarter with a 51-yard touchdown catch that might set the tone for a big year. If you want a further breakdown and don’t mind giving the Seattle Times a click, have at it:It was a typical creative moment from two men who’ve not always been on the same page, or healthy at the same time, since Lockett entered the league three seasons ago.We’re not here to talk about Lockett’s big play, though. More salient to the final result is how the Seahawks needed Lockett to be a little bit better last Sunday on special teams.Lockett got six chances to make a difference on kick returns, fielding two kickoffs and four punts. One kickoff return was a disaster, all of nine yards, forcing the Seahawks to start on their own 16 Seahawks Germain Ifedi Jersey , the victim of hidden yards. The other was fine, good even, a 30-yard scamper.But on punt returns, Lockett’s decisions were costly. He let the first punt, a returnable one, bounce for another 10 yards in Denver’s favor. On the second he netted nine yards, but on the the third he lost a couple. Finally, a four-yard return on which he did nothing special rounded out his day. Out of six chances, four results were subpar. The Seahawks don’t need Lockett to be an All-Pro return man, though it’s clear he’s cabaple of performing at that level. They just needed him to be a little bit better Sunday, especially in a game decided by three points. As many games might turn out to be this season.The decision to kick that ill-fated FGThere’s really not much of a rationale for taking Sebastian Janikowski off the field on 4th and 6, when his field goal try had just been moved up five yards after a practice kick. The odds say he’s going to make a 46-yarder; statistically, it’s not prime go-for-it real estate. The Fourth Down Bot from the New York Times would agree, and even it recommends going for it more often than any coach, besides maybe Philadelphia’s Doug Pederson. The bot says:With the ball on the 28, a close game almost halfway through, and six yards to go, the field goal looks sensible on a neutral statistical level. However. However, however, however. Given the time left on the clock, the ability of Denver’s offense on Sunday to move the ball, Case Keenum’s carelessness, and Janikowski’s history, the field goal choice presents some problems.1:56 left means that a succesful field goal gives Denver time to execute a two-minute drill. Going for it and making it ensures the Broncos won’t get a good scoring chance. Yes I’m serious.)To summarize: the decision to kick is supported by success rates on fourth down and six. But since you’re in that area of the field, in that period of the half, where taking a chance doesn’t cost you a ton of field position and allows you maybe to keep the ball until halftime, and doesn’t require you to put trust in an iffy kicker, the decision is a lot more murky. With a lackluster run game at his disposal and a defense that forced him into comeback mode all game, Blake played well — certainly well enough to win. His first quarter touchdown throw to Donte Moncrief was a thing of beauty and his over 8.4 yards per pass attempt was more than adequate. Donte MoncriefAs I mentioned earlier, Moncrief’s long touchdown catch in the first quarter was the kind of highlight this team is banking on once or twice a game. Even with just four targets all game, he’ll still stick out in your memory when remembering this game.3. Rashad GreeneThere’s no way getting around this. Greene had just one target and it was a fumble on a catch that would have given this team a first down and put this team within field goal range with less than two minutes to play. It’s a play that will stick with Greene (and us) for a while — not as one of those “what if?” plays when recalling how we barely missed the playoffs (that wasn’t going to happen) but as the nail in the coffin for why Greene isn’t worthy of a roster spot.T4. 4. Telvin SmithThe drop off for Telvin this season has been tremendous. He is a liability in coverage and the only reason he was in a position to make a late game interception is because he was trailing Eric Ebron by a good couple of yards. If Ebron doesn’t juggle that ball it’s an ugly, ugly play. Aside from that, Telvin has been noticeably underperforming and I honestly do not know why. Does he really miss Poz that much? Are opposing offensive coordinators figuring him out? I’m talking... no Jaguars defender was within 10 yards of him. Telvin was tasked with covering the running back in the flat and Ebron streaking towards the corner of the end zone. Telvin took the running back and Ebron easily scored. Afterwards, Church and Telvin exchanged glances and then words and then more glances. That scene has played out multiple times and I don’t have any reason for why Church has been on a different page when it comes to coverage, but I don’t think his being temporarily benched for Jarrod Wilson in the first half was related to an injury. The team needs speed at the strong safety position and Church is not giving it to them. Depending on how far along Ronnie Harrison is in his development, we could see a lot more of him as the season winds down.6. The offensive lineFor the most part today, Blake had time to throw. They got through today without being a huge liability overall (although the left tackle position is an absolute concern) and that was with their captain Brandon Linder going down in the second half with what looked like a serious injury. Report: Carlos Henderson to be suspended for violating league substance abuse policy After failing to report to the Denver Broncos training camp practices a few weeks ago Authentic Brandon McManus Jersey , Ryan O’Halloran of The Denver Post is reporting that Carlos Henderson is going to be suspended for Week 1 for violating the league substance abuse policy.Back in January, it was reported that Henderson was arrested for possession of marijuana and this suspension could be related. The Broncos likely knew this was coming, but left the door open temporarily for Henderson to report to the team and go through training camp. “It’s strictly on Carlos if he wants to continue to play football, if he wants to come back to camp and compete,” Head Coach Vance Joseph said in July. “That’s strictly personal with Carlos.”The window was likely a short one and Henderson has long since past that point. He seems content with letting his NFL career fade into the night. This time last week the Denver Broncos 2018 season looked like it was circling the drain. Justin Herbert was on a lot of minds, people were taking bets on how long Vance Joseph had and questions of John Elway’s performance were quietly being raised.Credit the Arizona Cardinals for this, they make a good rebound game. While turnovers and a dominant defensive performance pushed the contest out of hand quickly, it’s worth a look to see how Denver did at accomplishing the three keys I set out for them last week. All 3 will be important in Arrowhead.Cardinals Key #1 Manage the Down and DistanceIf we’re going to pick nits after a 45-10 win, here’s a good place to start. The Broncos had six 3 and outs against Arizona. In and of itself this isn’t a huge issue as the Cardinals do have a stronger defense than they get credit for, but calling plays like a receiver screen on 3rd and 2 is plays against the strength of the offense. Burn this play. Just dumpster it Bill. Cardinals Key #2 Make the Rookie Running Backs AstronautsThe Broncos accomplished this with Lindsay, who broke 3 different 10+ yard runs. One area of concern going forward is the amount of times the Broncos backs got stuffed for no gain. When news broke of Leary’s injury I predicted that the line would take a step back and that does appear to be the case one game in. Again Youth Bradley Roby Jersey , the Cardinals D is actually better than conventional stats make them appear so this isn’t a huge concern this week but it bears monitoring.The other problem going forward is the Royce Freeman injury, obviously. It looks like he’s day to day but even if he can go a bum ankle means he’ll lose a good bit of his lateral mobility. The hope here is Philip Lindsay, not Booker, carries a heavier load.Cardinals Key #3 Hold up Against the Run, but Respect Play ActionMcCoy never figured out that Rosen is dangerous on play-action. Have to wonder if Leftwich will.There’s a reason Mike McCoy got fired, because he did the Broncos every kind of favor with his play calling. All season McCoy has routinely run David Johnson into the gut of opposing defenses and he called play action even less often than Musgrave, despite similar levels of success when he does. Against the Broncos it was much the same. Rosen’s first pass was an empty set that gave the pass rush a key to get their hands up. One Todd Davis pick later and the rout was on. By the time McCoy called the first play action pass for Josh Rosen, it was 28-3. The pass did gain 6 yards on first and 10. The second time was directly following the Case Keenum interception to Patrick Peterson when McCoy called a 2 route shot play. Rosen completed it for 16 yards but it was defended as well as you could reasonably hope for.The next time the Cardinals ran a play action pass, the game was beyond out of hand and the pass rush had their ears pinned back. At that point it did more harm than good. How did Keenum look?Keenum made better decisions under duress than he had against the Ravens or Jets, which was a concern going in. Earlier this season there have been too many times where he’s tried to squeeze the ball or make something happen when it’s smarter to just move on to the next down. More than once I’ve compared Keenum to Jake Plummer, who admittedly has a special place in my heart. One reason for this is that Jake the Snake only cared about one stat: winning. Like Keenum he wasn’t a world beating talent in his own right http://www.broncosauthorizedshops.com/authentic-von-miller-jersey , but on his best days he mixed in just enough gunslinger to make plays the D left open to him. Gary Kubiak and Shanahan also did a masterful job of maximizing his strengths through the scheme, so calls like this from Musgrave were very encouraging.Oh the nostalgia. The run action to Lindsay did enough to freeze both backers and get the line chasing, which gave Keenum the time he needed to setup and find Emmanuel Sanders, who was wide open because the safety inexplicably came down on the intermediate route. It almost ended in disaster though. Billy Turner was slow enough out of his stance on the snap that Olsen Pierre goes completely untouched. A sloppier play fake or better defensive tackle destroys this play before it goes airborne. Outside of the 64-yard touchdown Keenum was 13-20 for 98 yards and a pick that never should have been thrown. We’ll call the Cardinals game a step in the right direction, even if he still reverts to full Snake mode sometimes. Keenum had better options here but went full gunslinger, then misplaced the ball. On to ArrowheadEverything I said before the first game with the Chiefs is still applicable, so if you haven’t already read it you should. It’s fitting the game comes in week 8 because it is likely the biggest game of the Broncos season. Win this and Denver’s back in a realistic playoff hunt with another game in Oakland and both Chargers games left on the schedule. Lose and Demaryius Thomas is probably gone. Key #1 Slow down Dee FordDee Ford is the Chiefs best pass rusher and he’ll school Turner if he’s left on an island. As a unit the Chiefs defense is not good. Anyone who has watched a game this year can tell you that, but their pass defense isn’t bad, just average. Bob Sutton’s secondary has actually done a commendable job defending primary receivers (such as holding A.J. Green to 7 catches on 14 targets) and rank as one of the 10 best defenses at defending the middle of the field. What drives that pass defense? The pass rush and specifically Dee Ford, who is tied for fifth in the league with 21.5 pressures through 7 weeks. In the first tilt between the two, Denver lost Jared Veldheer and Kansas City saw Ford play through a groin injury. He still caused all sorts of issues and is a glaring mismatch across from Turner. Musgrave needs to scheme to protect his right tackle in this one or Keenum’s going to spend all day running for his life. Chips by Heuerman Authentic Jeff Heuerman Jersey , Janovich and the backs should come early and often and force the rest of the Kansas City pass rushers to make plays. Justin Houston had a strong performance against Bolles in the first game, but he’s nowhere near the player he was earlier in his career. Musgrave should also emphasize a quick passing game this week targeting the slot receivers, backs and tight ends. It wouldn’t be a shock if Courtland Sutton or Sanders has a big game because that’s a mismatch in Denver’s favor. Key #2 Run the Damn BallThe Broncos need to maul the KC run defense. Stop me if you’ve read this before, but Musgrave and the Broncos need to ride or die with the running game. In the first game with Kansas City Denver’s backs averaged 6.7 yards a carry. While the Chiefs defense is better against the pass than they get credit for, they’re dreadful against the run. They’re a bottom 5 team in every direction by Football Outsiders Adjusted Line Yards. Leaning on the ground game will protect Keenum, manage the down and distance as well as shorten the game and make every drive Patrick Mahomes leads more important. If this turns into a shootout the odds heavily favor Kansas City’s aerial circus. Key #3 Force Mahomes into mistakesEven on this pick Mahomes had someone open. The Patriots called Cover 1 here with man coverage on the outside and a single safety over the top to help on deep passes. Patrick Chung dropped into a short zone because his assignment stayed in to give Mahomes time, while Dont’a Hightower dropped into the underneath zone and effectively bracket Travis Kelce on the crosser. By design the primary read on the play was the crosser because the play action would force the second level defenders to step up on the run, but Hightower dropped in time and Mahomes never saw him. What’s notable is that the pass rush didn’t influence the decision, and if he had looked, Mahomes had a streaking Sammie Watkins open in single coverage deep. He just didn’t see him.Joe Woods and Vance Joseph can’t count on Mahomes giving them an unforced gift though. Mahomes doesn’t take many sack, but he’s made magic happen under pressure all season. He’s a special talent on the fly Youth Darian Stewart Jersey , but if he’s allowed to sit back and diagnose zone coverage he’s going to surgically cut the Fly Zone to pieces. Man coverage with a variety of blitz calls is the recipe for success Sunday. Lost in the glow of their 45-10 whooping of the Cincinnati Bengals was news that the Chiefs lost Jordan Devey to a pectoral injury, he’s a starting guard who has filled in at center in recent weeks because Mitch Morse has lingering concussion symptoms. Devey’s injury leaves Kansas City incredibly thin on the interior of their line after right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was placed on injured reserve, he fractured his fibula and sustained injuries to his ankle ligaments against Jacksonville. If Joseph and Woods are smart they’ll test that depth early and often. The Broncos need to utilize stunts and twists as the new starters won’t have had much time to gel as a unit. This could also help Von Miller if it forces Mitchell Schwartz into either/or situations. The same could be said of Bradley Chubb if the scheme calls for attacks on Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher. Woods and Joseph need to pressure Mahomes early and often. To be perfectly honest, the Broncos could accomplish Key 1 and 2 and still lose. While it looked better against the Cardinals, Denver’s run D could prove problematic again this Sunday. The Broncos will be forced to use more nickel versus Reid’s offense because of the talent at wide receiver. The Chiefs offense is literally a pick your poison kind of set up so the best case scenario may very well look a lot like the Rams game, with Mahomes being stymied ala Jared Goff, but Kareem Hunt running wild. That’s still better than a quiet hunt but 400 yard, 5 touchdown game from the Kansas City quarterback.Many Denver fans are in denial but there is no doubt that Patrick Mahomes is going to be the next face of the NFL. He’s a legitimate MVP candidate and is about as promising a young QB as I’ve seen. More and more it’s looking like the only way to beat the Chiefs in 2018 is have a strong game offensively and find a way to steal a possession or two.

Some considered the two prospects as a toss-up, others lamented that Seattle did not get Kendricks, but Wagner has developed miles ahead of the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker in the years since. Kendricks played in 85 of a possible 96 games, making 74 starts for the Eagles. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns in the offseason and was sometimes featured on Hard Knocks, including when the team released him following a report that he was being investigated for insider trading. Kendricks is facing significant jail time — recent reports have it as up to 25 years after pleading guilty to the charges — but could still play this season. Schefter says that Kendricks is actually facing 30 to 37 months in prison, and reports have conflicted all along. Nobody seems to really know until his sentencing in December.The Seahawks have a potential issue at outsider linebacker depending on how long it takes for K.J. Wright to be healthy enough to play again as he recovers from knee surgery.It’s hard to say after one week if Shaquem Griffin is a weakness on the defense, but the combo of outside linebackers Griffin and Barkevious Mingo is a farcry from where the defense is at with Wright. Kendricks, facing the rare white collar crime for an NFL athlete, would potentially help bridge the gap until Wright returns.

They analyze the NFL New York Jets Hats , college football, and fantasy.Rivers McCown, who wrote the chapter previewing the 2018 Jets New York Jets Womens Hoodie , is answering questions for us this week.One of the great concerns many Jets fans have is the offensive line. It isn’t just that the line looks shaky on paper. There also doesn’t seem to be much upside.Today I asked Rivers whether there was any reason to be hopeful about the unit. Jaguars stand firm at the top of the AFC South The Jacksonville Jaguars hold firm in first place of the AFC South after their impressive victory over the New England Patriots. The rest of the division on Sunday looked... not so impressive. Lets take a spin around the AFC South and see how the rest of the division is shaking out.Houston Texans 17 www.jaguarsauthorizedshops.com , Tennessee Titans 20I went back and watched the 30-minute cut up of this game and buddy,,,,,, I wish I hadn’t. This was an abysmal game to watch and both teams just look bad. The Texans offensive line is awful and Deshaun Watson has no shot most of the time and they can’t run the ball. The Titans started Blaine Gabbert and he competed a pass to himself and for a long stretch of the game had less passing yards than the 66-yard punt fake touchdown the Titans ran. Houston moves to 0-2 and are now a long shot to make the playoffs while the Titans limp to 1-1 and into TIAA Bank next week.Indianapolis Colts 21, Washington 9The Colts picked up a nice win on the road and their defense showed up against a timid Alex Smith, but even with the three-score win, I’m still not buying the Colts as a threat this season. Andrew Luck hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t been great either and is far from what he was a few years ago. He’s completing a bunch of short passes and still turning the ball over. They were able toget pressure on Smith and shut down the Washington run game, but I’m not buying this as some show of the Colts aren’t actually a dumpster of a roster because they definitely are.Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars series history: Divisional rivals through and through The TennesseeTitans were a constant thorn in the side of the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Despite Jacksonville’s surprising success, the Titans owned the Jags in 2017. The AFC South rivals are plenty familiar with each other, and each team often wins one game a piece in the season series.
