rowns two years ago Michael Strahan Color Rush Jersey , so he expected to be in Cleveland for a while. That changed this month when he was traded to the Giants as part of the deal that sent wide receiver Odell Beckham and defensive end Olivier Vernon to the Browns. Zeitler said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he was lifting when word of his move broke and called it “quite a shock” to find out he’d be changing teams.Once the shock subsided, Zeitler also found himself excited about the prospect of clearing the way for running back Saquon Barkley.“I mean, obviously, the first thought that popped in my head is like, ‘All right, we got Saquon!’,” Zeitler said. “I know he’s a heck of a player so that can only make life more fun for me. Right after I got traded, Eli Manning reached out, so did Nate Solder. Both sound like great guys that are in it, ready to work and whatever I can do to help, it’ll be great.”The Giants picked up Zeitler because their offensive line play was abysmal for much of last season, so his presence could make life more fun for Barkley at the same time that the running back is brightening Zeitler’s days. Let’s build a scenario where the Daniel Jones at 6 talk becomes reality"The 2019 NFL Draft is almost here. Mercifully, that means a temporary end to mock draft madness — until it starts up again for the 2020 draft. Let’s offer one more 7-round New York Giants mock draft scenario.Full disclosure: Before I even start this mock I know that I am taking Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick. Is that what I would really do if the choice were mine? Probably not. I’m doing it here, though, for a couple of reasons.First, increasingly it looks like Dave Gettleman and the Giants might. Second, we’re painting scenarios with these mocks. We haven’t looked at one with Jones at the top. Let’s do that and see how it plays out.Round 1 (No. 6) — Daniel Jones, QB, DukeTold you what I was going to do. Did it. Yes Kareem Martin Color Rush Jersey , Dwayne Haskins was still on the board. Drew Lock, too. Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen and Devin White were not.Round 1 (No. 17) — Devin Bush, LB, MichiganDeve Gettleman predicted that no matter what there would be good players available at 17. Here, he’s right. Lots of good options here. None of these would really, in my view, be wrong. I will take the difference-making linebacker.Passed on: OT Andre Dillard, OT Jonah Williams, Edge Clelin Ferrell, DL Christian Wilkins, CB Byron Murphy, WRs Hakeem Butler, N’Keal HarryRound 2 (No. 37) — Dexter Lawrence, DL, ClemsonAfter taking a quarterback at No. 6 my instinct tells me the picks at 17 and 37 are more likely than not to be defense. Why Lawrence? Remember during his pre-draft press conference when Gettleman was asked about players on defense with a “dog mentality?” He talked about linebacker Alec Ogletree and safeties Jabrill Peppers and Antoine Bethea. The hog-mollie loving Gettleman didn’t mention any of his interior defensive linemen, and both he and Pat Shurmur have made it plain they want to add to this group.Forget Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and anyone else on that Clemson defense. There are those who believe the guy who actually made everyone better in that group was the 342-pound Lawrence, a monster in the middle who also has pass rush potential. There are Robert Thomas Color Rush Jersey , in truth, a number of good possibilities here. Gettleman was right that the early parts of this draft are “thick” with players.Passed on: WR A.J. Brown, S Nasir Adderley, DL Jeffrey Simmons, OC Erik McCoy, CBs Justin Layne and Rock Ya-SinRound 3 (No. 95) — JJ Arcega-Whiteside, WR, StanfordAdmittedly, I’m hunting for an offensive tackle, an edge rusher and a cornerback. Wide receiver is on the list as well, though, and the way the board falls here the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Arcege-Whiteside is the value play. So, some help for Eli Manning. Oh, and Jones, too,Round 4 (No. 108) — Will Harris, S, Boston CollegeAs near as I can tell Cody Latimer Color Rush Jersey , what defensive coordinator James Bettcher really wants at the safety position are players who can be used interchangeably — sometimes deep, sometimes in the box, sometimes in the slot. Harris seems to fit the description.Round 4 (No. 132) — Bobby Evans, OT, OklahomaValue meets need. The top-rated offensive tackle still on the board, in a range where he should be considered value.Round 5 (No. 142) — Darius Slayton, WR, AuburnTo borrow a Gettleman word, we have reached that point of the mock draft where the TDN board is always “thick” with wide receivers. Here, I take a developmental speedster. In other mocks I have chosen DeMarkus Lodge of Mississippi and Travis Fulgham of Old Dominion in similar spots. There are a number of receivers to select from here, all with pros and cons. Slayton’s 4.39 speed and upside are intriguing. Besides, he’s a guy we haven’t talked about yet. In his draft guide, Dane Brugler of The Athletic says: “Slayton has inconsistencies to his game, but he is much more than simply a speed demon, showcasing fluid athleticism and length to make catches outside his framework, projecting as a high-upside developmental receiver.”Round 5 (No. 143) — Michael Jackson, CB, MiamiHad to come out of the draft with at least one corner. Jackson is a solid 6-foot-1, 200-pound corner reputed to have good ball skills Evan Engram Color Rush Jersey , which should appeal to Pat Shurmur.Round 5 (No. 171) — Lamont Gaillard, C, GeorgiaSome competition for Jon Halapio and Spencer Pulley. The highest-rated center, a need position, left on the board.Round 6 (No. 180) — Elijah Holyfield, RB, GeorgiaThe Giants might be looking for a running back to replace Wayne Gallman as the caddy for Saquon Barkley, and it would make sense if that were a power back who could handle some of the short-yardage chores. Draft Network says the 215-pound Holyfield brings “eye-popping power to the contact point.”Round 7 (No. 232) — Austin Bryant, Edge, ClemsonDon’t ask me how Bryant is still on the board here. He is, though, and that’s good enough for me.Round 7 (No. 245) — Jordan Brailford, Edge, Oklahoma StateWith 12 picks and not having taken an edge rusher until this round, I’ll take another swing at that spot.
Anon wide receiver. They selected Baylor wide receiver Jalen Hurd with the No. 67 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. I can’t say many of us saw this coming Laken Tomlinson Jersey , but Hurd is a much different receiver than Deebo Samuel. Hurd is primarily a slot wide receiver, despite his 6-foot-5, 226 pound frame. He was also a former running back at the University of Tennessee. A senior out of Baylor, Hurd stands 6 feet, four inches, and weighs 229 pounds. He has experience playing running back before wide receiver and that experience has some nice video of shrugging tackles like he just came through the offensive line. His time in the position does pose questions about the conversion to wide receiver but that seems to be a moot point. Knowing Kyle Shanahan, that running back experience may make Hurd be plugged in at the position for some mismatches as well. The thing with Hurd is his ceiling. He has all the physical tools necessary to be an elite wide receiver in this league. He has long arms, good hands, and a daredevil mentality at catching balls when in a circus. At the same time, he does need development. Hurd’s route running is what will need work, and in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, success in that trait is paramount. Despite him also being a running back at one point, Hurd’s blocking will need significant work as well if he’s going to be on the field for stretches at at time. The 49ers are going to have some decisions to make at wide receiver. They have Trent Taylor coming back from a back injury as well as Marquise Goodwin’s inconsistent health issues. They drafted Richie James and Dante Pettis in 2018 and signed Kendrick Bourne as an undrafted free agent in 2017. There’s also the recent acquisition of Jordan Matthews. They have Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd from 2019. That’s A LOT of people to feed and some tough cuts are going to be coming during training camp as the 49ers figure out what to do with this wide receiver unit going forward. Highlights:Draft Profiles: Matt Miller Bleacher reportNFL.com Draft Card49ers draft picks1. First round: No. 2 overall Nick Bosa-Ohio State 2. Second round: No. 4 (36 overall) Deebo Samuel-South Carolina3. Third round: No. 3 (67 overall) Jalen Hurd-Baylor4. Fourth round: No. 2 (104 overall)5. Sixth round: No. 3 (176 overall)6. Sixth round: No. 30 (212 overall) This has been a rough year for the Faithful, between injuries, close losses and the underwhelming development of several highly-touted young players on the San Francisco 49ers roster. Most see these problems as temporary, with the combination of Kyle Shanahan’s offensive schemes, Jimmy Garoppolo’s arm Terrell Owens Color Rush Jersey , and a high draft slot for GM John Lynch combining to paint a bright future. Is it time to question that future, though? The 49ers have struggled offensively this year, scoring under 20 points in four of the last six games. Could it be that Kyle Shanahan’s offense is not as great as everyone hoped it would be? Offensive wizards can get figured out in this league (just ask Chip Kelly).Let’s start by acknowledging what we don’t know — the exact plays, reads and defensive coverages on each play. Deception is a big part of the battle between offensive and defensive coordinators, and unless you wiretapped the helmet mics during the game, none of us really know what the calls were. That said, Shanahan’s offense is pretty simple in some ways — a lot of outside zone runs mixed with play action. While he’s innovative in moving skill players around his formations and good at getting production from all of them — including his fullback — Shanny’s scheme is more multiple than tricky. This should keep him relatively immune from being “figured out” in general terms, but it moves the battle against defensive coordinators into individual game plans and player matchups. The commonly used metaphor of football as a chess game doesn’t really work, because talent changes everything. In football, one “knight” might be able to move three squares down and three over; another could go four down but can’t cut to the right. The problem is that injuries and a general shortage of talent have left Shanahan with little to work with. We can’t really tell if a play is creating lots of possibilities, when the surviving players aren’t capable of executing it. The loss of Marquise Goodwin in particular has been a huge issue, allowing defenses to collapse and removing Shanahan’s deep shots from his arsenal. Pierre Gar莽on’s injuries have compounded the problem.Matt Breida, Nick Mullens, and Jeff Wilson, Jr. have overachieved beyond anyone’s wildest dreams, which is a great sign of the power of Shanahan’s scheme (and Bobby Turner’s coaching of the running backs). But there are reasons why each was a UDFA, and in general any DC would rather game plan against them than Garoppolo https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Joshua-Garnett-Jersey , Goodwin, and Jerick McKinnon. If you look at production during games, there are encouraging signs. Even with all of their problems, the 49ers are 15th in the league in offensive yards per game (363.3), and 7th in running yards (129.2). However, they are 21st in point per game (21.3), which points both to turnover problems and red zone weakness. The very young skill players, with less experience against top-level competition, are vulnerable on both scores. What we are not seeing is some kind of schematic adjustment that undermines the advantage of Shanahan’s scheme, the way that, say, scrape exchanges countered read-option run plays. When the offense stalls, it’s the result of errant passes, illegal motion and holding penalties, or sacks.Tampa Bay threw a lot of pressure at Mullens, and his greenness showed. He felt the pressure and couldn’t get the ball to open receivers in many cases. It’s worth noting that Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator, Todd Monken George Kittle Jersey , was Mullens’ coach at Southern Mississippi. So they had extra insight in the rookie QB’s vulnerabilities.Against Seattle, Shanahan dialed up a lot of screen passes, which were effective in helping Mullens handle the predictable pressure. This hasn’t been a big part of Shanny’s scheme, even though opposing coaches such as Andy Reid have been torturing this team with screens all year. Shanahan, in my opinion, prefers taking shots downfield or between the numbers in these situations, to move the ball downfield more aggressively, but he’s limited by wide receiver injuries, and doesn’t have a quarterback capable of finding the receivers he has. This was a necessary adjustment, but I don’t think we’d see that with healthy starters. We won’t know for sure if Shanahan is less than his reputation would suggest until next year, with a talent infusion and healthier players. It’s the job of coaches to make the most of what they have, but Shanahan is facing extreme limits. It’s possible he’s a guy who needs top level talent (say, Matty Ice and Julio Jones) to really do well. But I think 49ers fans would prefer that to a coach who specializes in getting more than you’d expect out of a bunch of bad players. Jed York and the 49ers front office show every sign of wanting to get back to the Super Bowl and having a pretty good plan for getting there. It just might take a bit longer than we hoped.
an hit on quarterbacks anymore. Lending a sympathetic ear is none other than Mike Zimmer Minnesota Vikings Jerseys Stitched , one of the biggest beneficiaries of the league's renewed emphasis on protecting the passer."It's pretty difficult," the coach of the Minnesota Vikings said. "You've got a target area the size of a strike zone."So, from the top of the knees to the armpits. No lower legs. No neck. No head."And then you can't fall on top of them," added Zimmer. So, they've got to break the quarterback's fall or at least do a "gator roll," where they basically pull the quarterback on top of them as they land.Do all that in the blink of an eye and there won't be a flag negating the game-sealing interception like Matthews was hit with Sunday, allowing the Vikings to escape Lambeau Field with a 29-29 tie instead of a loss.To be clear, the rule outlawing defenders from landing on the quarterback has been in the books since 1995, but the league's competition committee made it a point of emphasis this year. And while Matthews wasn't whistled specifically for that, the league's emphasis on roughing the passer appeared to play a role in the game-altering whistle that erased rookie Jaire Alexander's interception of Kirk Cousins with 1:37 remaining in the fourth quarter with Green Bay ahead 29-21.Referee Tony Corrente explained that when Matthews "hit the quarterback, he lifted him and drove him into the ground."Many critics didn't buy that explanation or the justifications for the more than 30 times roughing the quarterback has been called in the first two weekends of the season."I love the NFL - but it's crazy the #s being put up by QBs & WRs due to fact that D can't hit them anymore & can't lay hands on them downfield," tweeted Kurt Warner, the architect of the "Greatest Show on Turf" that put up its own big numbers."Everyone is running free the entire game (or it's a penalty)! Don't get me wrong I LOVE Offense, but better when it's a fair fight."Other takeaways from Week 2 include the realization that not even his grandma is safe from Jalen Ramsey's trash talk; Marquette King got the last laugh on Jon Gruden after the Broncos' 20-19 win over the Raiders; kickers who can't cut it get cut; and Vontae Davis gave new meaning to walking away from the game.GRANDMA GOT RAN OVERRamsey, the Jaguars star cornerback and one of the league's most outspoken personalities said he "definitely would" hit his grandmother if she lined up against him on the football field."To respect the game, you have to play it fierce," Ramsey said. "I don't believe in having friends on the field. I mean, my brother, my dad, my mom, grandma was out there, like it's on. After the game, we can be cool. It doesn't matter. That's how I feel, like Garrett Bradbury black jersey , you've got to respect the game of football."Football is not a game meant to be played being nice to each other and all that, like kumbaya. After the game's over with, that's cool."Ramsey wouldn't really hit his grandmother, would he?"No, I definitely would," he said. "She knows that. My grandma knows that. I love you, but she knows that."Ramsey added that granny "might not get up from one of my licks."TIME FOR ME TO FLYInstead of a farewell game, Davis said farewell to the game, walking away during halftime of the Bills' loss to the Chargers. The 10-year veteran told his coach he was done and then didn't accompany his team back onto the field for the second-half kickoff.Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said he'd never seen anything like it "in Pop Warner, college, pros, never heard of it, never seen it.""And it's just completely disrespectful to his teammates," Alexander added. After the game, Davis tweeted that he meant no disrespect to his teammates or coaches, saying, "This isn't how I pictured retiring from the NFL. ... But today on the field, reality hit me hard and fast. I shouldn't be out there anymore."CHEEZY CHUCKIEShortly after Brandon McManus' field goal with 6 seconds left allowed Denver to escape Gruden's bid for his first win in Denver, the ex-Raiders punter trolled him on Twitter with a video that included a Chucky doll with dollars stuffed into his clothes, an unmistakable reference to Gruden and the 10-year contract he signed to return to the Raiders this spring.King was released by the Raiders on March 30 and quickly signed with Denver, saying he was eager to face Gruden twice a year. King said after signing with the Broncos that he hadn't spoken to Gruden before or after his release, and when he was asked about Gruden last week, he replied, "Who's that?"KICKED TO THE CURBAfter a weekend that included 19 missed kicks Garrett Bradbury Jersey Mens , two kickers lost their jobs Monday. The Vikings waived rookie Daniel Carlson after he missed all three of his field goal attempts, including two in overtime, in the tie game at Green Bay.When asked by a reporter how the decision was reached, Zimmer deadpanned, "Did you see the game?"The Browns released Zane Gonzalez after his four misses in New Orleans prevented Cleveland from winning for the first time since 2016. That came after his potential game-winning field goal in overtime was blocked by the Steelers in the opener.Gonzalez misfired on two extra points and two field-goal tries, including a 52-yarder in the final seconds, in the Browns 21-18 loss to the Saints. Some Browns fans weren't any more accurate than the wayward kicker when they vented at the wrong Zane Gonzalez on Twitter 鈥?a graduate assistant baseball coach at the University of Rio Grande who retorted, "Guys, I'm just a college baseball coach. Relax."To which one intrepid fan replied, "to be fair you didn't make those kicks today either."What You Missed: Week 3 It was a weird week in the NFL. The Vikings got blown out by the Bills, yes. But the week started with the Browns getting their first win in almost two years. The Jaguars, fresh off a win over the Patriots, lost to the Titans, despite the fact that Marcus Mariota was nowhere near 100 percent and didn’t even start the game. The Patriots lost to the Lions and looked awful. Then on Monday night, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards...in a loss. What?Oh, and the Browns have a better record than the Patriots. So maybe the Vikings just got caught in a storm of Week 3 NFL-weirdness. That’s a better explanation for the game on Sunday than anything else I’ve seen, to be honest. Anyways, let’s look around the league. In the North...Matt Patricia got his first win as Lions head coach with the aforementioned victory over the Patriots. Again, people are trying to crank up the panic meter in Foxborough, but the Patriots have started seasons like this before and still won the Super Bowl. I’m not sure what to make of this win for the Lions, though. They started the season with a horrible loss and another pretty bad one, so this is obviously encouraging progress. It remains to be seen if they’ll be able to compete in this division. The Bears were absolutely gifted a game by Sam Bradford and the Cardinals, who blew a 14-point lead at home. Don’t look now, but Chicago actually leads the NFC North at 2-1 Football Olisaemeka Udoh Jersey , with the Vikings and Packers a half game back at 1-1-1. They have some issues to iron out, and I’m still iffy on Mitch Trubisky. But they’re at the top for now.Hey, at least the Packers lost! All anyone wants to talk about from this game is the roughing the passer penalty on Clay Matthews, who’s now been flagged for that in every game this season, including a huge one against the Vikings last week. But the Packers look like they’re in trouble, especially considering the state of Aaron Rodgers’ knee. They take on the Bills next week, which will be interesting.NFC contender watchFor at least this week, this section is gonna have to start with the Rams. They looked dominant once again, this time in an impressive win over the Chargers in the battle for LA. They’ve looked invincible over three weeks, but I don’t think they’ve faced off against a real defense yet. So Thursday will be a huge, huge game. Carson Wentz returned and looked pretty good, getting the Eagles to 2-1. Drew Brees was spectacular for the Saints, who also moved to 2-1 with an overtime victory over the Falcons. At this point I’m not ready to call anyone else a contender, but hey, prove me wrong, Ryan Fitzpatrick.Ex-Vikings quarterback reportThis is gonna have to be renamed the Case Keenum report unless Teddy Bridgewater gets into a game. As I indicated last week, Sam Bradford was on thin ice going into Week 3. And he fell right through, turning the ball over three times. He was pulled in favor of rookie Josh Rosen in the fourth quarter (sidenote: why would you put your rookie quarterback in for the first time when he’s losing late in the fourth quarter?) who then threw an interception to seal Arizona’s fate. Coach Steve Wilks named Rosen the starter going forward. Bradford is still making $20 million this year, though.Meanwhile, Case Keenum suffered his first loss as Denver’s starter. And it was a rough one — he threw for 192 yards and an interception while finishing with a QB rating of 29.3. It led to a 27-14 loss to the Ravens, which left both teams at 2-1. Keenum hasn’t been great statistically, but he’s done enough to help his team win so far this season. Next up will be a Monday night game against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. That’s it for WYM. See you next week.
deadline The Miami Dolphins are a little over 24 hours away from the start of their final preseason game for 2018. After Thursday night’s game at the Atlanta Falcons Xavien Howard Jersey , the Dolphins will not have much time before Saturday’s 4pm ET deadline to cut their roster from the current preseason 90-man limit down to the regular season’s 53-man limit. Some of the players on either side of the cut line will be easy decisions for head coach Adam Gase. It is the players in the middle that could make for harder decisions. Those players, sitting on the roster bubble, could make the team based on a strong showing on Thursday night. They could miss making the roster simply because the team needs more depth at a different position. There are a lot of variables that go into the building of an NFL roster, which means there are plenty of players who do not yet know where they stand in terms of that cut line. Who are the bubble players this year?Leonte CarrooThere are several wide receivers who could be considered on the roster bubble this year, including Isaiah Ford and Francis Owusu, but there is probably no one on the roster who better fits the definition of a bubble player than Carroo. The 2016 third-round pick has been a disappointment for the Dolphins coaching staff, who expected much more from the receiver than the 10 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown he has thus far into his career. Carroo has been buried on the depth chart, and is currently dealing with a groin issue that has been keeping him from practice and game play. The coaches seem to want to see Carroo break out and become the player they thought they were drafting, but he is in real danger of being on the wrong side of the cut line this year. Prediction: Cut.Greg JosephThe Dolphins have two rookie kickers, but only space for one on the 53-man roster. Both Joseph and Jason Sanders have been solid this summer, which gives Sanders the advantage for the roster because the team used a draft pick to select him. Joseph has not really done anything to not be worthy of a roster position, but there is no reason to keep two kickers. Unless Joseph shines while Sanders implodes on Thursday http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-raekwon-mcmillan-jersey , Joseph will be on the wrong side of the cuts. Prediction: Cut.A.J. DerbyThe Dolphins head into the season with three tight ends appearing to be locks for the roster. Mike Gesicki will be the starter, MarQueis Gray should be the second tight end, while Durham Smythe is a blocker and developmental player at the position. That leaves Derby, Gaving Escobar, and Thomas Duarte in the group looking to justify a roster position. Duarte will likely land back on the practice squad, Escobar will be cut, which leaves Derby. A couple of months ago, Derby was projected as a potential starter at the position. Now, he could be in trouble. Injuries and Gesicki’s ability to grasp the playbook have pushed Derby down the depth chart. Miami has kept only three tight ends the last few years, which would mean Derby is out. I think the Dolphins use a spot to keep him, however. Prediction: Roster.Kendall LangfordThe Dolphins are deep along the defensive line, which means there is going to be someone from the group cut that maybe could make the roster any other year. Langford is the bubble guy in that sense for Miami right now. If he has an outstanding game on Thursday Womens Jakeem Grant Jersey , there could be an argument to find a slot to keep him on the roster, but the Dolphins already have Jordan Phillips, Akeem Spence, Davon Godchaux, and Vincent Taylor ahead of Langford on the depth chart, and when Williams Hayes is healthy, he will play a combination of defensive end and defensive tackle. That leaves Langford, who was signed during training camp as the replacement for Hayes’ playing time, needing an impressive game. Prediction: Cut.Jordan LucasSafety/cornerback Jordan Lucas is buried deep on the depth chart and will struggle to make the team. Special teams player Jordan Lucas could make an argument for a roster spot. The Dolphins have to figure out if they can afford to keep their 2016 sixth round pick based solely on special teams play. Can someone else at a different position provide the same special teams play as Lucas while being able to bring something to the field on game day on offense or defense? Prediction: Cut.David Fales / Brock OsweilerBoth backup quarterbacks are on the bubble, but there is not really a way to decide who could be on the wrong side of the cut line. It feels like it should be Osweiler, but Fales has not pulled away enough to make that a sure bet. If one of the two players dominates Thursday night, maybe it will be enough to decide to only keep one of them. Right now Mark Duper Jersey , though, I do not see a way to make a distinction, and Miami eats two roster spots as Ryan Tannehill’s backup. Prediction: Roster both.Monday Evening Random Live Thread This is one of our random and yet not so random (since they appear nearly every evening) live threads. t Overreaction:Jared Goff had the game of his career Tyler Higbee Jersey , cementing himself as an elite NFL quarterbackIf QB Jared Goff’s first three games were impressive, then yes, this would be a classic bad overreaction. However, Jared Goff is the only QB in the history of the NFL to throw for over 350 yards in three consecutive games with a completion percentage over 70. As oddly specific as that stat may be, it’s still cause for praise for Goff. What was so great about Goff’s performance was that it on national TV, under the LA lights, in the throwbacks Jared Goff Jersey , with a raucous crowd, against a good team, and Goff was simply perfect. It wasn’t just short passes off bubble screens either — the dude was dropping dimes. I can’t see how someone can watch that game and shrug at the idea that Jared Goff is elite. Obviously, he needs to keep it up, but this is a hell of a way to start the season.Worst Overreaction:The Rams’ pass defense is fine because the offense is so dominantWhile this statement has some truth to it, Rams fans can’t be comfortable with the idea that Kirk Cousins was throwing the ball all over the field like he was Jared Goff or something. Beyond our kicker issue (don’t get me started), Grandpa Wade will most likely make some major adjustments with his current crop of defensive backs going into the next game (more FS Marqui Christian Samson Ebukam Jersey , please) against the Seattle Seahawks. And the absence of CB Aqib Talib was definitely felt and CB Marcus Peters wasn’t 100%. So, I think the Rams should be talking about our pass defense more — it’s not broken, but constantly relying on the offense to save the day could be be a recipe for disaster at some point. he one he just fired.According to Adam Schefter of ESPN Carlos Hyde Jersey , former Giants interim and Rams head coach Steve聽Spagnuolo has “emerged as the favorite” to become the next defensive coordinator of the Chiefs.Reid and Spagnuolo worked together with the Eagles in the early 2000s, and have the same agent, which should make the negotiations with himself easy.Spagnuolo was out of football last year, after finishing up the 2017 season as the Giants interim coach. He was the defensive coordinator there from 2015-17, and has also worked for the Ravens and Saints since his three-year stint with the Rams.Of course, a day ago, ESPN’s Schefter floated the possibility of ESPN’s Rex Ryan as a possiblity for the job, which they’re currently debating on ESPN Tyrann Mathieu Jersey , so we’ll see if ESPN can confirm this development. The Jacksonville Jaguars are finished with the "Payback Tour."Now it's on to a tougher challenge, a more high-profile matchup. The Jaguars (3-1) will play at Kansas City (3-0) next week — a game that features the league's top defense against one of the league's most potent offenses."We pride ourselves on being a really good defense so this is a great challenge for us," defensive end Calais Campbell said following a 31-12 victory against the New York Jets on Sunday. "We know they've got firepower everywhere. Everywhere. I'm looking forward to the challenge. This defense, we believe in ourselves, so this is an opportunity for us to go and see what happens."The Jaguars have put together four impressive defensive outings to start the season, allowing 324 yards against the New York Giants in the opener and then getting better every week since.New England (302 yards), Tennessee (233) and the New York Jets (178) scored a combined three touchdowns against Jacksonville's vaunted defense. Two of those came off turnovers. New England's first touchdown in Week 2 followed DJ Chark's fumble near midfield, and the Jets' lone touchdown Sunday also was gifted. T.J. Yeldon fumbled at the Jacksonville 29-yard line. Trumaine Johnson scooped it up and returned it to the 5 .Sam Darnold connected with Jordan Leggett in the back of the end zone three plays later. The Jets managed little else. The Chiefs should be more difficult to cover Damien Williams Jersey , between speedster Tyreek Hill, fellow receiver Sammy Watkins, tight end Travis Kelce, running back Kareem Hunt and quarterback Patrick Mahomes."The secondary welcomes these games," Jaguars safety Barry Church said. "We know they're going to throw the ball all over the place, so as a secondary we've got to go out there, prove that we're one of top secondaries."They have options at every level like slot, outside receiver Derrick Thomas Jersey , tight end, running back and a quarterback that can throw it a hundred yards so that's going to be a great challenge for us. But I think we have the players that will step up and be ready for the challenge."Jacksonville had plenty of motivation the last four weeks: top executive Tom Coughlin's first game against his former team (Giants), a rematch of the AFC title game (Patriots), a division game against the only team that swept the Jags in 2017 (Titans) and a third consecutive home game against the team that snubbed Doug Marrone for its head coaching job in 2015.Next up are the high-powered Chiefs."We've got another game, a great team we're playing next week," Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue said. "We've got KC, and that's what our focus is on now. Like I said, we've got to this win http://www.chiefslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-montana-jersey , enjoy it now. It's in the past."Here are some other things to know following Jacksonville's win over the Jets:FOURNETTE OUTJacksonville's biggest concern is the health of running back Leonard Fournette, who re-injured his strained right hamstring after missing the last two games. Fournette ran 11 times for 30 yards before leaving for good."Anytime you come back and you're ready to go and then all of a sudden you get injured again, it's not a good sign," Marrone said.MESSAGE SENT?Marrone insisted he followed the chart, calling for a 2-point conversion after a fourth-down touchdown run in the final seconds of a lopsided game. Few believed him.Marrone was seemingly sending a message to the Jets , the team that passed on him three years ago and hired Todd Bowles."He doesn't like those guys," Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson said. "I don't know what they did to him, but he doesn't like them."Marrone said he had no hidden agenda or extra motivation Womens Larry Johnson Jersey , which was hard to believe considering he took a subtle shot at Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson in late August.DARNOLD STRUGGLESJets rookie Sam Darnold was harassed early and often , getting sacked three times and nearly throwing three interceptions.Darnold completed 17 of 34 passes for 167 yards. He got little help since the 1-2 punch of Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell combined for 26 yards rushing."We've got to make plays that were there," Darnold said. "I've got to make throws that are there and not think too much, take what they give me and we'll start to find completions and get into a rhythm."
SAN DIEGO (AP) — In his first game back from a knee injury http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , Rene Rivera was big trouble for his old team.e Los Angeles Angels completed a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 3-2 victory Wednesday night.Reinstated from the 60-day DL before the game, Rivera connected for a solo shot into the second deck in left field against San Diego closer Kirby Yates (4-1). The former Padres catcher had missed 76 games with right knee inflammation.“It’s awesome to come back after three months and help the team to win a game,” Rivera said. “First, I’m glad to be back and have an opportunity to play, and winning the game today is great.”Yates, who took over as closer when Brad Hand was traded to Cleveland, had allowed only two earned runs in 21 innings pitched at Petco Park this season.“I just threw a good pitch, and he hit it,” Yates said. “Just come back tomorrow and get back at it.”After the Angels sent starting catcher Martin Maldonado to Houston at the July 31 trade deadline Bradley Zimmer Jersey , Rivera will have an opportunity to contribute more.“We just brought him back and knew he had to get his timing down,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “To jump right in like that, that’s a huge home run obviously.”Jose Alvarez (5-3) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win for the Angels, their seventh in nine games. The sweep was Los Angeles’ sixth of the season.Blake Parker retired the side in the ninth for his 12th save.Cory Spangenberg erased an Angels lead in the seventh with a solo home run that tied the game at 2.Andrelton Simmons singled home David Fletcher in the sixth to put Los Angeles in front 2-1.Both teams scored in the first inning. Albert Pujols drove in Kole Calhoun, who led off the game with a single, with a sacrifice fly against Padres lefty Robbie Erlin.San Diego answered with a sacrifice fly from Hunter Renfroe that brought home Travis Jankowski.Felix Pena pitched six solid innings for the Angels, allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking four and striking out seven.“I think Felix did a great job,” Scioscia said. “He kept getting better as the game went on. The only fly in the ointment is four walks, but he stepped up.”Erlin and Pena traded scoreless innings until the sixth, when Simmons broke through for Los Angeles.“He pitched great Brandon Guyer Jersey ,” Rivera said of Pena. “He kept the ball down and elevated when he wanted to elevate. He was keeping the hitters off balance and did a good job today.”Shohei Ohtani pinch-hit in the ninth and struck out swinging against Yates.TRAINER’S ROOMAngels: Ohtani threw at full strength in his second bullpen session since injuring his right elbow in June. The two-way rookie star from Japan said his arm felt good and he was able to throw all his pitches. “I did throw 100 percent effort, but obviously it is going to be different from a game situation,” Ohtani said through a translator. “I can’t say for sure until I see how my body feels tomorrow.”ROSTER MOVESThe Angels optioned RHP Odrisamer Despaigne and C Jose Briceno to Triple-A Salt Lake, and designated RHP Akeel Morris for assignment.UP NEXTAngels: Open a four-game series in Texas on Thursday. The club had not yet announced a starting pitcher. RHP Ariel Jurado (2-2, 5.66 ERA) will take the mound for the Rangers.Padres: RHP Jacob Nix (1-0) makes his second start in the majors Thursday against Arizona, looking to follow up a debut in which he threw six scoreless innings. RHP Clay Buchholz (5-2, 2.67) goes for the Diamondbacks. Harry How/Getty ImagesFacing a midnight deadline to exercise his contract option, Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to extend the window.Per an announcement from the Dodgers, Kershaw now has until 4 p.m. ET on Friday to decide if he will opt in to the final two years of his deal or become a free agent. If Kershaw opts in to his deal, the three-time National League Cy Young winner willearn$65 million through the 2020 season.Among the potential factors causing Kershaw to delay his decision are health and performance. The 30-year-old has spent time on the disabled list in each of the past three seasons and has reached the 200-inning mark just once since 2014.The 2018 season saw Kershaw become a different kind of pitcher. His average fastball velocity of 90.9 mph was the lowest of his career http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , leading to him throwing more sliders than ever before (42.3 percent), perFanGraphs.Despite the injuries and diminished velocity, Kershaw remained terrific with a 2.73 ERA and 155 strikeouts in 161.1 innings this season. The Dodgers are the only franchise Kershaw has ever known. Since making his MLB debut in 2008, he has made the NL All-Star team seven times and won five ERA titles, and in 2014, he became the first NL pitcher to be named MVP since Bob Gibson (1968).

Texas’ elimination came in game No. 138, its earliest point to be out of the division race since 2014 (game No. 135).Article continues below ...The Rangers’ current 25-game deficit to front-running Houston matches their season-high.Texas general manager Jon Daniels confirmed Monday that the team had a chance to pursue a trade involving third baseman Adrian Beltre last week but did not do so because of Beltre’s desire to finish the season and possibly retire as a Ranger at the end of the year.Friday was the deadline for clubs to acquire players by trade and have them eligible for the postseason. “The only way it was going to happen — me going somewhere — is if it made sense for both parties: me and the team,” Beltre told MLB.com. “Obviously,it’s always been important for me to have a chance to win the World Series. Obviously, it didn’t make sense for both of us. We had a discussion http://www.redsoxproshops.com/authentic-dustin-pedroia-jersey , and that’s why I’m here.”Barria will head to the hill for his 22nd start of the season and 11th time on the road on Wednesday. He earned a win in his last outing on Friday at Houston after tossing six scoreless innings and allowing three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. In his last seven starts, Barria is 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA. He Is pitching to a 2.77 ERA on the road this season. In his three starts versus the Rangers this year, Barria has fashioned a 2-0 record with a 1.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts. He made his major league debut on May 3 at Globe Life Park. The 45-year-old Colon will make his 26th appearance and 24th start of the season on Wednesday night. It will be his first action since he was activated from the disabled list on Saturday. He was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 24, retroactive to Aug. 21, with a lower back strain. Colon took the loss in his last start on Aug. 20 at Oakland.Colon has gone 12-9 with a 3.88 ERA in 27 games, 26 of them starts, against the Angels in his career. He is 0-1, 10.50 in two games Nomar Garciaparra Jersey , one of them starts, against Los Angeles this season. The Rangers are 9-12 in his 21 starts.Heaney’s outing on Tuesday continued a stretch that has seen him take every turn in the Angels’ beleaguered rotation since his season debut on April 13. He hurled six full innings in the loss, lifting his season total to 158. He’s on pace to get to 175 to 180. CINCINNATI (AP) —njured list Thursday with a broken right index finger http://www.bravesfanproshop.com/authentic-nick-markakis-jersey , one of six Pittsburgh players sidelined to start the season.Chisenhall was hit by a pitch during an exhibition game at Houston on Monday.Pirates manager Clint Hurdle would not give a time frame for Chisenhall’s return. He said Chisenhall will be evaluated in 10 days. The Pirates signed Chisenhall this month as a free agent to fill in while right fielder Gregory Polanco recovers from a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Polanco is expected to return by mid-June. Chisenhall got a $2.75 million, one-year deal to serve as his fill-in.The Pirates also put Jordan Lyles, their fifth starter, on the injured list with discomfort in his right side.Pittsburgh made the moves prior to their opener against the Cincinnati Reds. GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — A new manager and coaching staff. Three new starting pitchers. The Reds begin their season with a whole new look and hopes that their run of last-place finishes could be coming to an end. There’s a very different vibe as Cincinnati opens camp with its first workout by pitchers and catchers on Wednesday. Offseason trades remade the rotation and the everyday lineup, sparking hope after four straight 90-loss seasons.“There is a lot more expecting to win and a lot less hoping to win,” pitcher Michael Lorenzen said Tuesday. The change started at the top. The Reds fired manager Bryan Price after a 3-15 start last season and decided not to keep interim Jim Riggleman. David Bell was hired as manager David Justice Jersey , a move that resonated with Reds fans. His grandfather, Gus, and father, Buddy, played for the Reds. The 46-year-old Bell inherited a roster that lacked proven starters, the main thread in the losing seasons. Three trades brought starters Sonny Gray, Tanner Roark and Alex Wood http://www.bravesfanproshop.com/authentic-nick-markakis-jersey , who will join Anthony DeSclafani and Luis Castillo in the rotation. Gray agreed to a $38 million, four-year contract as part of the trade from the Yankees. Roark and Wood can become free agents after this season.Bell hasn’t yet decided how he’ll slot the starters as spring training opens.“The very first step is building relationships,” Bell said. “We haven’t set a schedule yet, but we will set up a rotation very soon.”The Reds also acquired outfielders Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp from the Dodgers. Both of them are free agents after the season as well.Cincinnati’s attendance slipped to 1.6 million last season, the Reds’ smallest since 1984 at Riverfront Stadium. They hired Bell and made the trades hoping to show fans that they were working to become competitive again in the NL Central.“There is new energy in the organization and in the city,” Bell said Tuesday. “We can’t underestimate the importance of that. We want people excited about our team.“There is a difference, I think Scott Kazmir Jersey , about being excited and feeling that there is something special.I think we are in the early stages of that. Things are moving in the right direction.”Bell’s main challenges will be figuring out the rotation and deciding how to fill the hole in center field, where Billy Hamilton used to play. Lorenzen is in a group of pitchers being considered for various roles, including long relief. Bell also plans to try him in the outfield during spring training.Lorenzen he was 4-2 with a 3.11 ERA and one save in 42 relief appearances and three starts last season. He batted .290 and led major league pitchers with four homers — including one grand slam — and 10 RBIs in 31 at-bats.As a pinch-hitter, he went 3 for 13 with two homers. From June 24-30, he homered in three straight at-bats, including the grand slam. He became the first major league pitcher to homer in three straight at-bats since Colorado’s Mike Hampton in 2001.“You could see him in the outfield the second half of camp,” Bell said. “He’s preparing to help our team any way he can.”Lorenzen worked out in the outfield in the offseason. He pitched and played outfield at Cal State-Fullerton Kurt Suzuki Jersey , batting .335 his final season there.“I love that they understand that I’ve played both my whole life,” Lorenzen said. “They don’t have to put me in bubble wrap. Playing center field is the best thing I do on the field. Defense has been my strength since I was 9 or 10.”Notes: San Francisco claimed RHP Jose Lopez off waivers. The Reds waived him a day earlier to open a spot for left-hander Zach Duke, who agreed to a $2 million, one-year deal. Lopez went 5-13 for Triple-A Louisville last season.
"The Dodgers lost 7-2to Jack Flaherty and the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night without much of a protest. Not one Dodger got as far as second base in the entire game. Two solo home runs from Joc Pederson and Max Muncy was the Dodger offense that had been shutout for 18 straight innings from the 6th inning on Monday to the 6th inning tonight.Jack Flaherty’s Game Score of 70 was the highest this season against the Dodgers. In fact he became the first opposing starting pitcher to record a Game Score higher than 56 against the Dodgers.Kenta Maeda allowed the first Cardinal run when Marcell Ozuna stole third after he had doubled in the second inning. He would score on a Yadier Molina ground out.The Cardinals added a run when Dexter Fowler got a two-out single to score Paul DeJong. The Dodgers had halved the lead to a run but in the bottom of the sixth Brian Goodwin Jersey , Maeda gave up a run-scoring triple to DeJong and then Molina continued his assault on Dodger pitching by hitting a two-run homer to make it 5-1.Ozuna would close the scoring with a ringing line drive two-run homer off the foul pole in the eighth inning. And while the lack of offense has hampered the Dodgers in this series, you cannot overlook the fact that in 11 of their 13 games, opponents have scored four or more runs against the Dodgers.Andrew Friedman and Dave Roberts made a point of saying the Dodgers were going to try and be more consistent offensively this season.Sure this is just three games but it will be interesting to see if the team can make adjustments in the series finale.Player of the game:Jack Flaherty pitched six great innings against the Dodgers, he gave up one run, three hits and struck out eight.Look aheadThe Dodgers will be playing their getaway game and will try to salvage one game and come back to Los Angeles with a winning road trip.Walker Buehler (1-0 6.75 ERA) will start against Michael Wacha (0-0 1.54 ERA).First pitch will be at 10:15 a.m. PDT and it will be televised on Sportsnet LA and MLB Network (out-of-local-markets only) with radio coverage on KLAC 570 AM and KTNQ 1020 (Spanish) That Haboob Globe is top of Mrs. SnakePit’s list..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Diamondbacks Farm TeamsGameday ThreadsDiamondbacks NewsDiamondbacks Game ReportsFang FoodArizona Diamondbacks announce 2019 promotional scheduleNew,11commentsThat Haboob Globe is top of Mrs. SnakePit’s list...ESTShareTweetShareShareArizona Diamondbacks announce 2019 promotional scheduleThe Arizona Diamondbacks announced the 2019 promotional schedule, highlighted by Archie Bradley Bobble Gnome, Randy Johnson’s Perfect Game Starting Lineup Figurine, David Peralta #FreightTrain Bobblehead http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , Fireworks Spectacular, Nick “Ahmed on the Moon” Bobblehead and Haboob Globe. dition of the Beer of the Week!As always Khalen Saunders Jersey Mens , the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment. This week, with the Kansas City Chiefs playing the Denver Broncos, I decided to go just up the road from the Denver metropolis and make one of my all-time favorite beers the pick. This week’s Beer of the Week is the one, the only Oskar Blues Brewery Dale’s Pale Ale!A 6.5% ABV American Strong Pale Ale, Dale’s Pale Ale is an insanely drinkable beer with a lot of body. It’s aggressively hopped with citrus and floral hops, but not so aggressive that you can’t crush a few of these while watching the game. Coming in can-form only, this is a beer that you can take everywhere and is appropriate for every occasion. It’s America’s first craft-canned pale ale, proudly wearing the title of the Original Craft Beer in a Can.Oskar Blues Brewery started in Lyons, Colorado in 1997 as a restaurant up in the Rocky Mountains. In 1999, founder Dale Katechis started brewing his own beer in the basement of the restaurant, to great acclaim. In 2002, Oskar Blues started canning Dale’s Pale Ale and distributing it, helping to pioneer the canned-craft beer movement. On top of the fantastic Dale’s Pale Ale, Oskar Blues makes some wonderful beers in many styles. G’Knight, an Imperial Red IPA, is dangerously easy to drink beer Khalen Saunders Jersey nfl draft , wearing its 8.7% ABV very well. Death By Coconut, a 6.5% ABV Irish Porter, is a must for any chocolate and coconut fans. And Ten Fidy, the huge 10.5% Imperial Stout, will absolutely blow you away with their blend of dark malts. So if you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Oskar Blues Brewery Dale’s Pale Ale this weekend!Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week! FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England tight end Rob Gronkowski said the Patriots would take the night to enjoy it. Safety Devin McCourty said it would be closer to just a few hours of celebration. However long the Patriots players planned to relax after their dominating 41-28 divisional-round win over the Chargers on Sunday , this much is clear: A very good Kansas City Chiefs team is waiting in the AFC championship game.Meanwhile, in the losing locker room in Foxborough on Sunday, the Chargers headed back across the country after dropping their lone game of the season outside the state of California.New England needed a field goal from Stephen Gostkowski in the waning seconds to slip past the Chiefs 43-40 in one of the wildest games of the regular season in Week 6. Tom Brady had one of his best games of the season in the Oct. 14 victory over KC, throwing for 340 yards and a touchdown and running for another to earn his 200th career victory as starting quarterback. All of it was needed on a night in which counterpart Patrick Mahomes rallied his team from a 24-9 halftime deficit, throwing for 352 yards and four touchdowns in what was the Chiefs’ first loss of the season and his first as a starting quarterback. Now comes a rematch against a Kansas City team that oddsmakers have installed as an early favorite. It will be rare air for the Patriots.Sunday’s win over the Chargers sent the Patriots to the conference title game for eighth straight season. It will also be the 13th conference championship game appearance by the Patriots during the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.McCourty said despite their unprecedented run and performance Sunday, nobody in the Patriots locker room believes they can just show up and win at Arrowhead Stadium.“You go to eight straight AFC championship games, you’re in the playoffs 10 years in a row, you kind of get in a mode like it’ll keep happening, it’ll be there Eric Murray Jersey ,” McCourty said. “But this is a special group, and I think we’re starting to realize that we have one opportunity to try to take advantage of everything that’s in front of us.”New England got three first-half touchdowns from rookie Sony Michel to set the early tone against the Chargers. He finished with 129 yards rushing, his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season. The Patriots scored touchdowns on their first four possessions, building a 35-7 halftime lead.Buoyed by the run game, Brady was in vintage form at age 41, completing 34 of 44 for 343 yards and a touchdown. He improved to 8-0 as a starter against Philip Rivers, who drops to 1-8 against New England all-time.Afterward, Brady acknowledged that he heard the voices this season who doubted the Patriots and thought “we can’t win any games.”Asked if he thought the win might have quieted those voices, he simply smiled and paused.“I just like winning,” he said. “I just like winning.”OPEN GATESThe Chargers’ final touchdown came long after the game was out of reach, but don’t call it garbage time to Antonio Gates. The Los Angeles tight end is 38 years old, and it might have been his final game. When he caught an 8-yard pass from Rivers to make it 41-28 in the final minute, it made him the oldest tight end in NFL history with a touchdown catch in a playoff game.Only wide receiver Jerry Rice had a postseason TD reception at a more advanced age.“Pretty cool that if it were to be his last one, that his last catch was a touchdown,” said Rivers, who has thrown 89 regular-season TD passes to Gates Kendall Fuller Jersey , the most for a quarterback-tight end tandem.“You’re talking about a guy that’s caught more than anybody in the history of tight ends. And he and I have thrown more in the history of quarterbacks and tight ends,” Rivers said. “If it were to be (his last game), you’d look back one day and say it ended just how it started there a long time ago.”NO PLACE LIKE HOMEWhile a lot was made of the Chargers’ success on the road this season, Rivers said it might have been nice to play Sunday’s game at home. They were 7-1 during the regular season, losing only when they played at the crosstown Los Angeles Rams. The Chargers won at Baltimore in the wild-card round to open the postseason.“We won every game we got on a plane this year, except for this one. So we’d done a heck of a job on the road. Sometimes you look at what you did and you go, ‘Yeah, let’s just keep them all on the road because we’ve been good on the road.’ … There’s no question, you want to be at home where it’s about 65 degrees and it’s your place, not dealing with the noise and being able to communicate and all those things. Those things could have helped a little bit today, too. But they just outplayed us, they just outplayed us.”MOVING ON UPThe Patriots won their 35th playoff game, tying the Cowboys for second all-time. With one more win, New England will tie Pittsburgh for the most postseason wins in NFL history.
We already know that the Patriots will call heads or tails in the coin toss. We already know that Patriots special-teams captain Matthew Slater will call heads. Once the coin lands Los Angeles Rams Jerseys 2019 , the Rams or Patriots will have to decide whether to receive the opening kickoff or defer the decision to the second half.So what will they do? Will the Rams, if the toss comes up tails, take the ball and try to set the tone offensively? A three and out for L.A. could grease the skids toward early doom, and the Patriots would preserve the ability to pull off the coveted end-of-first-half-start-of-second double dip.Keeping the ball and scoring a touchdown, however, would be a huge way to start the game, especially since the Patriots have scored only three total points in the first quarter of eight prior Belichick-Brady Super Bowls. A score and a stop and a score would put the Pats on the ropes early. (Then again 2019 Taylor Rapp Los Angeles Rams , 28-3.)Deferring would preserve the double-dip opportunity for the Rams, and it would put Aaron Donald and company on the field, with a chance to establish quickly the kind of heat on Tom Brady that always is a key ingredient in beating the Patriots. Either Donald, Ndamukong Suh, Dante Fowler, Jr., and Michael Brockers will be able to pull it off or they won’t; why not find out right away? The Patriots typically defer when they win the opening coin toss Taylor Rapp Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , but they didn’t in the divisional round against the Chargers, opting for the football and opening the floodgates that essentially ended the game by halftime. If the Patriots do it again, it means that they know they need to do all they can to deliver an early knockout to the other team from L.A. The Rams don’t have an immediate need here, but being proactive could prove to be very wise."During the 2018 offseason, Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead aggressively reshaped the secondary for defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Fans saw the contentious situation with CB Trumaine Johnson finally conclude and FS Lamarcus Joyer get slapped with the franchise tag. In addition to that, the Rams utilized the trade market to acquire CBs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters from the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. Why then Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , are we discussing another revamp of the secondary? It comes down to sustainability. The Rams have been extremely aggressive with trades in recent years in order to force their Super Bowl window open, and that bill has come due.Joyner isn’t likely to be retained due to his drop in productivity and inevitably exorbitant price tag while Talib and Peters will both be unrestricted free agents next year.Personally, I think the Rams have one of the best trios of CBs in the NFL right now, but we’re looking past 2019 here. If the Rams decide to kick this can down the road and address it in 2020, they could be left with Nickell Robey-Coleman as their top CB.The Rams could surprise the NFL and decide to move on from Talib and/or Peters over the course of the next few weeks, but that’s unlikely. The more plausible scenario is that the Rams add depth and hope that whoever they add develops into a starter in 2020.Given these needs along with the Rams precarious cap situation, free agency isn’t a likely solution unless a veteran is willing to take a big discount to play in LA.With a five picks in rounds 3-5 Taylor Rapp black jersey , I would be surprised if one or more of those wasn’t used on a high upside DB prospect. If there is one thing we’ve learned about Snead, it’s that he’s not afraid to find creative solutions for roster problems. I’m intrigued to see what he comes up with.

The Miami Dolphins announced the promotion of cornerback Jalen Davis from the practice squad. Davis joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State back in May. He has spent the season on the practice squad after four seasons in college, where he played in 49 games with 11 interceptions, 48 passes defensed Charles Harris Jersey , and was a first team All-American and first team All-Mountain West selection as a senior. To make roster space for Davis, the Dolphins waived cornerback Dee Delaney. The Dolphins claimed Delaney off waivers on Tuesday after the Jacksonville Jaguars looked to move him back to their practice squad. Delaney, an undrafted free agent for the Jaguars out of the University of Miami and the Citadel back in May, played two games with Jacksonville, primarily working on special teams. He has bounced off-and-on the Jaguars practice squad throughout the season. As a graduate transfer in 2017 Jason Sanders Jersey , Delaney played in 10 games at the University of Miami. The Dolphins are looking for cornerback depth after starter Xavien Howard was ruled out for this Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. Davis likely provides the team with special teams support as well as being a player with familiarity with the defense if needed, while Delaney has only had a couple of days to prepare for his role with Miami. The Dolphins could look to sign Delaney, if he passes through waivers unclaimed, to their practice squad.
With the Minnesota Vikings’ 2018 season officially over with Dan Bailey Jersey , we now know all of the team’s opponents for the 2019 season. The final spot on the Vikings’ schedule will be filled by the Atlanta Falcons. With their victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday, the Falcons took possession of second place in the NFC South. That means that the Falcons will be making a trip to U.S. Bank Stadium at some point in the 2019 season. With that, here’s a complete look at Minnesota’s 2019 opponents.Home Games: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Atlanta FalconsRoad Games: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers Brett Jones Jersey , Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle SeahawksAt first glance, that looks like an awfully brutal road schedule. The Chiefs and Chargers tied for the most wins in the AFC this year (12 each), and the Vikings have three other playoff teams on their away schedule for 2019.On the other hand, the Vikings only have two home games against teams that made the playoffs in 2018 on their 2019 schedule. So. . .that’s something, I guess. We say this every year when we look at future opponents, but it’s damn near impossible to tell who’s going to rise and fall from one year to the next. At first glance, however, it doesn’t look like 2019 is going to be any kind of cake walk for this Minnesota team. The history between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints has gotten significantly more interesting over the past couple of years. . .well, from a Vikings’ fan perspective Ameer Abdullah Jersey , at least. The Saints had run off a few wins in a row over the Vikings, but the purple broke that streak last season. The regular season history between these two teams is what we’ll be focusing on here.As always, all of the numbers used in this post come from the good folks at Pro Football Reference.Total regular season games between the Saints and the Vikings: 29All-time record: Vikings, 19-10Total Vikings’ points scored, head-to-head: 732 (25.4 points/game)Total Saints’ points scored, head-to-head: 531 (18/3 points/game)Longest Vikings’ winning streak vs Saints: 6 games, 27 September 1970 to 12 September 1976Longest Saints’ winning streak vs Vikings: 3 games, 9 September 2010 to 21 September 2014Most recent Vikings’ home win in series: 11 September 2017 (Final score: 29-19)Most recent Saints’ road win in series: 18 December 2011 (Final score 42-20)Biggest Vikings’ home win in series: 42 points, 4 December 1988 (Final score 45-3)Biggest Saints’ road win in series: 22 points, 18 December 2011 (Final score 42-20)Current streak: Vikings, 1 winThe Saints and Vikings opened last season at U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday Night Football, and we saw the start of what looked like an outstanding season for quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford completed 27-of-32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdown passes. Stefon Diggs brought in two of the scores, while the other was hauled in by Kyle Rudolph. The Vikings dominated throughout most of the evening Danielle Hunter Jersey , and the Saints got a late touchdown to make things slightly less lopsided, but the Vikings won 29-19. Then, before we knew it, Bradford was basically done for the season. . .but the Vikings did alright anyway.Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees has set a lot of records in his NFL career, and he probably could have set some more the last time the Saints won in Minnesota. In 2011, against a defense that’s on the short list of the worst in Vikings’ history, Brees was pretty much unstoppable. Brees completed 32-of-40 passes for 412 yards and five touchdown. . .and threw his last pass at the 13:36 mark of the fourth quarter. The Saints put Brees on the bench after that, but had they wanted to let him set records in that one, they could have. As it was, the Saints won 42-20 as the Vikings spiraled to a 3-13 season. That’s a quick look at the history between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints, ladies and gentlemen. There’s plenty more to come before this Sunday’s contest, and we’ll have everything right here for your reading pleasure.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) —o toe with a playoff contender Sunday. Then Darian Thompson Color Rush Jersey , in the final 10 minutes, everything started slipping away. The offense committed two penalties near its goal line, forcing a punt. The defense drew two penalties, helping the Indianapolis Colts continue to march downfield. And when Andrew Luck changed the play call from a run to a pass on the goal line, not a single Giants player came close to stopping Chester Rogers on his decisive 1-yard touchdown catch that gave Indy a dramatic 28-27 come-from-behind victory. "You win or you lose and we didn't win," coach Pat Shurmur said. "That's the reality, that's the big boy part of this — just keep working and you keep trying to get better, and you keep trying to find ways to make plays at the end, and both sides, really all three sides."For New York (5-10), it's been a season full of tough lessons. It looked like the Giants turned the corner after starting the second half with four wins in five games. Now, though, they've lost two straight, been eliminated from playoff contention, and rookie running back Saquon Barkley has been held in check the last two weeks. The latest loss will be tough to stomach. While the Giants had plenty opportunities to close out the Colts (9-6) and spoil their playoff hopes, Andrew Luck & Co. made New York pay dearly for the inability to deliver a knockout blow. After driving to the Colts 7 early in the fourth quarter, New York could have made it a two-possession game. Instead, Denico Autry tackled Barkley for a 2-yard loss, Eli Manning was forced to throw the ball away on third down, and they wound up with a 27-yard field goal that gave the Giants a 27-21 lead."We knew we needed to score more points," Manning said. "Not getting a touchdown when we were down there that last time and had to settle for a field goal Doug Kotar Color Rush Jersey , that was tough. We have to do a better job there. We did a lot of good things, but obviously not quite good enough."Despite forcing a punt on the Colts' next possession, the Giants self-destructed after taking over at the 4-yard line. Scott Simonson was called for a false start on the second play, wiping out Barkley's 3-yard run. A 9-yard pass from Manning to Barkley was negated by a holding call on John Greco, and Barkley was stripped of the ball on a third-down run that nearly went for a touchdown. But the officials ruled Barkley's forward progress had been stopped — giving the Giants a brief reprieve. When Luck got the ball back with a short field and the playoffs potentially on the line, he took advantage of the Giants' shortcomings. Linebacker Tae Davis was called for a 2-yard pass interference on third-and-3 from the Giants 46. Cornerback B.W. Webb drew the same infraction in the end zone with 59 seconds left. On the next play, Luck threw the 1-yard TD pass to Rogers and Manning's interception with 23 seconds left sealed the Giants' fate."It's one of those deals: throw high over the middle, those guys are going to make a play," Manning said. "But I thought I threw it in a spot where he could make a catch on him and get a chunk right there."Manning was 25 of 33 with 309 yards and one touchdown, while Barkley was held to 43 yards on 21 carries and five receptions for 34 yards. Barkley scored on a 1-yard run .Luck wound up 31 of 47 with 357 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, leading the Colts to touchdowns on three of the first four second-half possessions before taking a knee on the final series."I can't say enough about how clutch Luck was." Colts coach Frank Reich said. "I mean, he was just clutch that whole last drive making throws, checks." This a deep and talented class of interior defensive linemen, but what does the depth chart look like?"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections New York Giants NewsGiants Training Camp 2016Giants vs. Eagles 2015, Week 172019 NFL DraftRanking the interior defensive linemen in a spectacular draft classNew,19commentsThis a deep and talented class of interior defensive linemen, but what does the depth chart look like?ESTShareTweetShareShareRanking the interior defensive linemen in a spectacular draft classMark Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe interior defensive line is the unquestioned strength of the 2019 draft class. It is so good that three of the top five talents in this class are likely defensive tackles, and there is fantastic depth as well. If we look back at New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman’s draft record, interior defensive linemen figure quite heavily. He has used six picks in the first three rounds on defensive linemen in his six drafts, and has only failed to draft a DL highly in just one draft. And considering how tightly Gettleman sticks to his draft board Curtis Riley Color Rush Jersey , it makes sense to keep a close eye on the interior defensive line class this year. Note: I have changed how I classify prospects for this year. I separate front seven players into “iDL,” “EDGE,” and “Off-ball Linebackers.” Interior defensive linemen are players who will almost always have a hand in the dirt. EDGE players are pass rushers off the edge and can play from a two or three-point stance. Honestly, this defensive line class is so stacked that limiting myself to six ranked players and five “honorable mentions” was tough. I could probably have gone further with both, but these ranking could change wildly in a week’s time anyway.Best of the bestQuinnen Williams (Alabama) - Williams was a virtual unknown back in August. But after an absolutely dominant season that showed off power, athleticism, and technique in every game he rocketed to the top of the list. Williams was a game wrecker for the Alabama defense, practically living in opponents’ backfields. Teams will be interested to see how he ultimately tests, but for now he will be in the top three on pretty much any big board.Ed Oliver (Houston) - Oliver might be the most athletic defensive tackle to enter the NFL in recent memory. His college coach didn’t always put that unreal athleticism to the best use, frequently having him play nose tackle, but it frequently didn’t matter. Despite being undersized (rumored to weigh somewhere between 270 and 290 pounds), Oliver has plenty of explosive power to go with movement skills which are the envy of some safeties. He has the potential to be dominant if he polishes up his hand technique and is put in better positions by his NFL defensive coordinator. Christian Wilkins (Clemson) - Wilkins is a more “classic” defensive tackle than the players above him, and in many draft classes he would be at the top of the depth chart. There aren’t really any weaknesses in Wilkins’ game either. He is athletic enough to be a dangerous interior rusher, has a non-stop motor, good agility, power, and leverage. Wilkins is versatile enough to play defensive end on occasion and could probably play both 5-technique and 3-technique depending on the situation. He is also very well regarded within Clemson’s facilities as a hard worker and leader in the locker room. Zach Allen (Boston College) - Allen isn’t the flashiest player on this list, but he is a consistent player on Boston College’s defense. He isn’t an elite athlete yet his power, technique, motor, and football IQ have yielded a player who can create havoc in opposing backfields. He should have a strong future as a defensive end who slides inside on passing downs. He might not always get the sack Calvin Munson Color Rush Jersey , but he’s the kind of player who’s presence disrupts offenses and helps his teammates get home. Jerry Tillery (Notre Dame) - Tillery is flying under the radar right now, and was something of a disappointment before having a breakout 2018 season. He has a prototypical build for an interior defensive lineman with good length and thickness and a strong upside as an interior rusher. He also flashes the ability to control blockers and close running lanes, which adds to his potential value. If Tillery can build on his breakout season and take advantage of the draft process, some team could get a great value.Dexter Lawrence (Clemson) - Lawrence is a great athlete for a massive (6-foot-4, 350-pound) nose tackle. However he never developed into much of a threat in the pass rush, and while every defense needs a good nose tackle, that just doesn’t carry the same value if he can’t threaten quarterbacks.Honorable mentionsJeffery Simmons (Mississippi State) - From a pure talent perspective, Simmons would probably rank third on this list. He is an enormously talented defensive tackle who is able to wreck running and passing plays alike. However, he also has a bad off-field red flag in his past, and while he has (by all accounts) been a model citizen since coming to Mississippi State, teams will do their due diligence. His interviews over the course of the draft process will be crucial to his draft stock and if he aces those, look for him to be drafted early.Rashan Gary (Michigan) - Gary has a reputation as an athletic freak of a defensive lineman. And he flashes a good first step on tape. However, I want to see how he moves in the short shuttle, 3-cone drill, and field drills before I slot him in my rankings. He could figure in fairly highly if he shows the ability to bend around the edge.Charles Omenihu (Texas) - Like Gary I want to get a look at Omenihu at the combine before I slot him in the rankings. His size likely limits him to being a defensive linemen (so not an EDGE by my reckoning) but I want to see how fluidly he moves in drills before making up my mind. He had a good week at the Senior Bowl and looks promising on tape, but this is a Jaylon Ferguson (Louisiana Tech) - Like the other defensive ends on this list, I want to get a look at Ferguson’s flexibility in a controlled environment. His production is impressive and his strength is unquestionable. However, he will need more than heavy hands and a high-revving motor to duplicate his college production in the NFL. And like Simmons, he too will have to answer questions about an off-field incident.Isaiah Buggs (Alabama) - When Buggs is on he is one of the better defenders in this class. He shows plenty of athleticism attacking into the backfield and should be a disruptive defensive tackle. The problem is that he isn’t always on. The NFL will want to see if that is an issue with his conditioning or some other problem. Performing well after a draining week of interviews and medical tests will help answer concerns about his conditioning, and those interviews will help teams get a look at the player himself.
Three games remain and a lot hangs in the balance for the 49ers to claim that No. 1 draft pick and Nick Bosa (if he pans out in interviews/workouts). The 49ers will have some wiggle room no matter what https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Garrett-Celek-Jersey , given the quarterback-needy teams that want to one-up each other and get the quarterback they want. So today we have the strength of schedule winning above all. Remember, as Fooch pointed out. It goes win/loss, division, and then the SoS in draft positioning. Right now, SoS can play a factor. The 49ers managed a win last week to put them a win behind the Oakland Raiders, but the Raiders managed to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers Arik Armstead Jersey , so the 49ers still sit for the first pick. That said, there are some concerns this week. Below are the games you should care about: Cardinals (3-10) at Falcons (4-9): Cardinals — Root for the Cardinals to put them out of draft positioning, although a Falcons win helps the SoS. Raiders (3-10) atBengals (5-8): Raiders — I shouldn’t have to explain this one. Seahawks (8-5) at 49ers (3-10): Seahawks — This will help draft positioning, but having the 49ers keep the Seahawks from claiming a playoff berth would be rather interesting. Titans (7-6) at Giants (5-8): Titans — Giants were an opponent and are out of the runnign as far as the first pick is concerned. a Titans win helps the SoS and also keeps the Giants in a believable position to trade with the 49ers for a franchise quarterback. Washington (6-7) at Jaguars (4-9): Washington — Washington was an opponent of the Cardinals. There’s a winner either way, because if the Jaguars win, it puts them out of this draft pick business entirely. Buccaneers (5-8) at Ravens (7-6): Ravens — The Ravens winning helps the SoS. Lions (5-8) at Bills (4-9): Bills — A Bills win is much more valuable than a Lions win. Fooch’s update: It appears the interview went well Frank Gore Color Rush Jersey , but it’s for a job a little more intricate than just defensive backs coach. The San Francisco 49ers lost defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley to the college ranks, but they might have a candidate in mind to replace him. The team is interviewing outgoing Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Joe Woods on Tuesday, per Broncos beat writer Mike Klis. Woods spent the past two seasons as the Broncos DC, but is expected to be replaced under new head coach Vic Fangio.Klis did not specify the job Woods would interview for, but his experience as a defensive backs coach suggests that’s the role. Prior to the DC promotion in Denver, he served for seasons as their DBs coach. He spent 2014 as the Oakland Raiders DBs coach https://www.49ersfanshop.com/Bradley-Pinion-Jersey , and held the same role for eight years with the Minnesota Vikings. Two days ago, Klis reported that Woods was expected to decide between Washington and Arizona for his next job. Interest appears to be increasing, with Jacksonville also in the mix.Woods was the Broncos DC this past season, but for those interested, Pro Football Focus ranked their secondary No. 24. Here’s what they had to say about the unit:
CARLSBAD http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have exercised their option on work on a long-term deal for the manager who has taken the team to consecutive World Series.Andrew Friedman, the Dodgers president of baseball operations, says the team is “optimistic about working something out long-term.”“The reason that we’ve kind of slowed down a little bit is we’ve got a lot of coaching staff decisions to make and interviews,” Friedman said Wednesday at the general manager’s meetings. “I think it speaks more to the optimism that something is going to definitely get done and allows us to kind of focus on what we need to near-term.”Roberts just finished his third season as the Dodgers’ skipper, when Los Angeles lost the World Series in five games to the Boston Red Sox. The Dodgers lost the 2017 World Series in seven games to the Houston Astros. He has led the Dodgers to seasons of 91, 104 and 92 wins, and is 287-200 overall. CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs were pounding out lopsided victories and squeezing out tight games while putting together their longest winning streak of the season.Todd Frazier brought it to a screeching halt. Even so, the Cubs weren’t complaining.Frazier hit a grand slam and drove in a season-high five runs to lead the New York Mets to a 10-3 victory over Chicago on Wednesday, avenging a tough loss earlier in the day.The Cubs had won a season-high seven in a row after pulling out a 2-1 victory earlier Wednesday on Ben Zobrist’s RBI single with the bases loaded in the 11th. That game was suspended in the top of the 10th because of rain the previous night. The scheduled meeting didn’t go nearly as well for the NL Central leaders. They couldn’t close out a perfect homestand after sweeping the first four games against Cincinnati and taking two more from New York. But they felt charged and ready for a season-long 11-day Willie Mays Jersey , 11-game trip that starts Thursday at Atlanta.“I feel like we’re in a good spot,” Zobrist said. “There’s definitely a few guys that are grinding still. But we as a team, I think we feel good. We feel upbeat and excited about where we’re headed.”Frazier gave New York a 4-0 lead in the first inning with his drive against Alec Mills and added an RBI single in a two-run ninth.Jason Vargas (5-8) won his third straight start. The Mets pounded out 16 hits and avoided a season sweep after dropping the first six games against the NL Central leaders.Vargas gave up one run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking two. The veteran left-hander has a 1.62 ERA in his past three outings.Mills (0-1) scattered five hits over five innings in his second major league start and did not allow a run after Frazier’s grand slam.He walked Michael Conforto with two outs in the first to load the bases. Frazier then launched a 2-0 pitch toward the back of the left-field bleachers — his fourth career grand slam and first since he hit one for the White Sox at Texas on May 9, 2016.“To get us kick-started there was nice, and then to give Vargas a cushion there so he can make some pitches and take a chance on some guys,” Frazier said. “That’s what we have to do every day as hitters.”Ian Happ hit an RBI single for Chicago in the second, but the Mets scored four in the seventh to make it 8-1. Victor Caratini hit a two-run homer for Chicago in the ninth.COMING THROUGHIn the suspended game, Zobrist grounded the winning single up the middle off Daniel Zamora with one out in the 11th after Chicago loaded the bases against Paul Sewald (0-5).“He’s playing with a lot of mental energy right now http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , too,” manager Joe Maddon said. “(I) talk to him all the time. He’s definitely totally engaged. And I think, again, he’s fresh. I don’t see him as being beaten up right now. That’s my biggest concern moving forward.”Cole Hamels threw five scoreless innings. Jesse Chavez (5-2) got the win with a scoreless 11th, and Anthony Rizzo matched a career high with four hits.New York’s Jacob deGrom went eight innings, allowing one run and eight hits. He struck out 10 and walked one while lowering his ERA to 1.68. WASHINGTON — pursuit of a playoff spot by concluding a three-game series with the Washington Nationals on Sunday. The Brewers led the Nationals 3-1 in the eighth inning Saturday but ended up on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision in a game that was delayed nearly two hours by rain and ended well past midnight. The Nationals mounted a two-out rally against reliever Joakim Soria and Juan Soto and capped it with a two-run single against Dan Jennings with Milwaukee closer Josh Hader unavailable.Article continues below ...With a win Matt Carpenter Jersey , the Brewers (76-61) would have moved into the top wild-card spot in the National League.“I think we’ll be fine,” Milwaukee starter Chase Anderson said after giving up one run in five innings. “I know how we respond to things. Our bullpen’s picked up the starters a lot this year. Just gotta pick those guys up.”Soto had three hits to raise his average to .301 and Washington (68-68) climbed back to .500 as it tries to stay in the playoff picture.Adam Eaton started the rally with a two-out double, Trea Turner singled him home, and Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon walked to set up Soto.“It’s a testament to the boys. They don’t quit,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. “They wanted to get back out there and play. They got the field ready. Stopped raining for us. We were able to come back and get a big win.”Milwaukee right-hander Junior Guerra (6-9, 4.09) opposes rookie right-hander Jefry Rodriguez (2-1, 4.54) in Sunday’s rubber game.Guerra is 0-4 with a 7.28 ERA in his last eight starts. He has allowed six earned runs in two of his last three starts. Last time out he only lasted 1 1/3 innings, allowing six runs and eight hits.Brewers manager Craig Counsell said the team did not consider skipping Guerra in the rotation.“We feel like Junior has pitched well for us this year,” Counsell said. “I won’t tell you his last start was a good start. I will tell you the starts before that were much better than they looked. There’s a lot of indicators that say those were not bad starts, they were bad luck.“I think that’s why Junior’s getting the ball still. We still believe he’s throwing the ball well.”Guerra is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in three games (two starts) versus the Nationals.Meanwhile, Counsell said newly acquired Gio Gonzalez won’t start a game in the Brewers’ next series against the Chicago Cubs but will be available in the bullpen.“He’s gonna get outs for us,” Counsell said. “He will play a role in this team going down the stretch. We made the trade and I’m glad we have him.”Rodriguez has a 1.69 ERA in his last three starts. Last time out he threw six shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks, as the Nationals pulled way late for a 15-0 win over the New York Mets when they scored 14 times in the final two innings.“I think the biggest difference there is http://www.stlouiscardinalsteamshop.com/authentic-marcell-ozuna-jersey , before, I used to like to just battle with my fastball a lot,” he told MASN.com.“Now I’m mixing in my pitches more … using my off-speed more and getting more comfortable and confident with those off-speed pitches.”He’s making his first start against Milwaukee.Nationals catcher Matt Wieters is dealing with a hip/groin issue that has bothered him since Washington’s series in Philadelphia earlier this week. He didn’t start, but pinch hit in the eighth inning.Washington right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (right hamstring strain) threw a bullpen session Saturday. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Carson Kelly and Luke Weaver will always been known as the other players in the Paul Goldschmidt trade. No matter what they do for the rest of their careers, good or bad, they will be linked to the Arizona Diamondbacks‘ fan-favorite first baseman. But the Diamondbacks do not consider them replacements for Goldschmidt.Goldschmidt was one of the best players in baseball during his eight seasons in Arizona, so matching his production would be difficult. Plus, Kelly is a catcher and Weaver a right-handed starting pitcher. The Diamondbacks just want them to be the best versions of themselves they can be.“When they were traded over, those were the first conversations that I began to have with them about just being themselves, embracing the organization the way we’re embracing them,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. “We chose them for a reason: because they’re very special players.”Both are looking forward to a fresh start. For Kelly, the trade should mean an opportunity for more playing time. He’s in a competition with Alex Avila, John Paul Murphy and Caleb Joseph to be part of Arizona’s three-man catcher rotation Lou Brock Jersey , but should get more playing time than he did with the Cardinals.A converted third baseman, the 23-year-old Kelly was considered a top prospect and the catcher of the future in St. Louis, but never got a realistic shot in the majors with Yadier Molina blocking the plate.Molina is still going strong at 36 and last year signed a contract extension through 2020, which likely would have meant two more seasons of waiting for Kelly.“Yadi might play another 100 years. You never know,” Kelly said with a laugh. “The guy’s incredible in his preparation and I’ve learned so much from him, but this is my opportunity to go out and continue to grow here.”With Molina entrenched, Kelly spent most of the past three seasons in the minors. When Kelly did get big-league opportunities, he didn’t know when they would come or how long they would last. The small windows led Kelly to press, which rarely works out well in baseball. As a result, he’s hit .154 with no homers and 10 RBIs in 63 major-league games.“You want to go out there and, ‘Oh, I’m going to get three hits and do all these great things,’ and you go out there and try to do too much, which as baseball players know Ken Boyer Jersey , is one of the worst possible things you can do,” said Kelly, who hit .289 across two minor-league levels last year. “I think here will be a new learning experience for me and a new chapter in my book.”Weaver has a solid 2017 season, going 7-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. The right-hander struggled at times last season, going 7-11 with a 4.95 ERA in 30 games. The 25-year-old had some strong starts late in the season, but was hurt by earlier blow-up outings that ballooned his ERA.“It was a blur of a season,” he said. “Things kind of pile on top of each other. You can really get in trouble if you don’t take a second to breathe a little bit. It can really unravel. That said, I don’t think the season was as bad as the statistics said.”Weaver has a chance to crack Arizona’s opening day rotation behind Zack Greinke, Robbie Ray and Zack Godley. The key will be consistency.Every pitcher has bad outings, but the good ones are able to bounce back quickly. With a few minor adjustments, Weaver believes he can get back to being the pitcher he was in 2017.“It’s just learning to minimize those mistakes when things aren’t quite going your way,” he said. “You learn to deal with those over time, but at this level guys are a little more consistent and better what they do. It’s just trying to get on their level and be better at what they’re thinking.”
Henry Schulman and Sam Whiting of the San Francisco Chronicle reported the news http://www.rangersfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-moore-jersey , noting Magowan had recently gone into hospice care and underwent surgeries for prostate and liver cancer during the past few years.Giants legend Willie Mays released a statement on Magowan, via David Lombardi of The Athletic:David Lombardi LombardiHimselfWillie Mays on the passing of Peter Magowan: NdPOpWprqJMagowan was the CEO of Safeway from 1979 until 1993 and was a managing general partner of the Giants for 15 years. His tenure with the Giants started in March 1993 when his time as the CEO of Safeway ended.Schulman and Whiting noted Giants fans remember the late executive as one of the most important people involved in keeping the team in San Francisco. Former owner Bob Lurie reached a deal with a group planning on moving the team to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1992, but the National League rejected the sale.Magowan and Larry Baer stepped in to organize a collection of partners to buy the club and keep it in San Francisco."Peter Magowan did save baseball for San Francisco," former MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said in 2008, per Schulman and Whiting. "He should get credit for that. That's a fact. He got a beautiful ballpark built. When you look back at what he鈥檚 done in San Francisco, a town he loves, those are the two overriding things he did."The ballpark Selig referred to was what is now known as Oracle Park. Magowan helped orchestrate the decision to move from Candlestick Park to a new waterfront stadium, and the team was able to use private funding in the process. He and Baer threw out the first pitches when the stadium opened in 2000.Magowan was also instrumental in signing Barry Bonds when the investment group took over the team following the 1992 season. Schulman and Whiting also pointed out he was known for sitting with the fans while wearing a business suit in Candlestick Park rather than in an ownership box.Magowan will be inducted onto the Giants Wall of Fame on Feb. 9. DENVER — As a result of being forced to alter their rotation Curtis Granderson Jersey , the Colorado Rockies will start Chad Bettis on Tuesday in what will become a bullpen game against the Philadelphia Phillies. In the opener of a four-game series Monday, the Rockies (85-70) pounded the Phillies 10-1 for their fourth straight win and handed the Phillies (78-78) their season-high tying fifth straight loss. The Rockies are a half-game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the race for the second NL wild-card spot are 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. Article continues below ...Shortstop Trevor Story returned to the Rockies lineup for the first time since he suffered right elbow inflammation last Monday and went 2-for-5 with two doubles. Story has 80 extra-base hits and became the fourth NL shortstop to reach that mark joining Jimmy Rollins (88) and Hanley Ramirez (81) in 2007 and Ernie Banks (82 in 1955, 81 in 1958 and 80 in 1960).“We’re full throttle right now,” Story said. “It’s a great position to be in. These games really do matter. We’re not where we want to be, but we feel like we will be in a few days.”Jon Gray, who supposed to start on seven days’ rest Tuesday, instead started on Monday and worked seven innings when left-hander Tyler Anderson was scratched from his scheduled start due to shoulder soreness.Bettis (5-2, 5.18) last started on Aug. 12 and was then moved to the bullpen where he has made six appearances totaling 8 1/3 innings. Bettis has worked in low-leverage situations and will be pitching for the first time since Sept. 13 when he worked one inning and threw five pitches.Rockies manager Bud Black said he expects Bettis to throw between 30 and 50 pitches. He threw 30 pitches in 1 2/3 innings on Sept. 9.Bettis is 2-0, 1.93 in six games (four starts) against the Phillies, whom he last faced in 2016. The Phillies have been in a major tailspin since mid-August. They’ve lost 16 of 22 games this month and are back to .500 for the first time since April 10.Vince Velasquez (9-11 Jaime Garcia Jersey , 4.59) will start for the Phillies. He’s 2-0, 3.95 in five starts against the Rockies and 1-0, 3.27 in two starts at Coors Field. The right-handed Velasquez has been far more effective against right-handed hitters, limiting them to a .204 average and .598 OPS in 309 plate appearances. Lefties are hitting .282 with a .870 OPS against Velasquez in 300 plate appearances. In his last start Thursday at Atlanta, Velasquez wasn’t involved in the decision in Philadelphia’s 8-3 loss. He gave up five hits and three runs in three innings. Velasquez has not gone more than four innings in each of his past three starts and is 0-1, 12.00 in those outings, allowing 16 hits and 12 runs in nine innings.Velasquez threw 73 pitches in four innings Sept. 9 at the New York Mets, 44 pitches in two innings against Miami on Sept. 15 and 57 in three innings in his last start. The Phillies are very analytically inclined, but manager Gabe Kapler said Velasquez’s recent short outings are performance-related and not based on any metrics.“What I’ve shared with all of our starters and this is also somewhat true for our relievers is if you are the best option, all things considered http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , to get the next hitter or three hitters out, you will go back out,” Kapler said. “And so, for Vince, when he’s the best version of Vince, he’s hard to take out of a game. I literally have to think about reasons why to take him out. I’m not putting any artificial limitations on Vince.”
