BALTIMORE – Kevin Seitzer does not have a doctorate in psychology and the Blue Jays recent offensive slump has him wishing he did. Yeezy Shoes Wholesale . "Now would be a good time to have one," Seitzer joked to TSN.ca before Friday nights game against the Orioles. Its been a tough week. Entering Fridays action, the Blue Jays had lost five of their last six games, scoring a total of eight runs in that span. Baseballs leader with 91 home runs as a team, Toronto didnt hit any in the five defeats. The frustration is mounting, not that Seitzer needed anyone to point it out. "Its mental, emotional stuff," said Seitzer. "We were having so much fun and playing so well that when you hit a little bump in the road nobody likes it. When you dont like it you get mad and when you get mad after an at-bat and you go up for your next at-bat and it doesnt work out the way you want then you get more mad." Now is the time Seitzer gets away from swing-tweaking and mechanical suggestions. He becomes more a mental coach, inviting his group to take a seat on the proverbial couch. "I said, I want you guys to stay aggressive. I want you to compete your butt off on every at-bat but keep the emotions out of it," said Seitzer. "Weve got to keep the emotions in check. Understand that umpires are going to make bad calls you dont like, pitchers are going to hit spots that theyre not used to hitting consistently, were going to go through a little phase where we get painted up a little bit with guys who arent used to doing that." Hes talking about a guy like Minnesotas Kevin Correia, who entered Tuesday nights start with an ERA above six but shut the Jays offence down over six innings. Hes talking about a guy like Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals, who baffled Toronto over seven innings last Sunday. Garcia has a pedigree but is only recently returned from a year-long layoff following complicated shoulder surgery. Young Orioles fireballer Kevin Gausman held Toronto to a run over six innings on Thursday but Seitzer felt his offence had its best outing in a week. Gausmans fastball tops out at 98 miles per hour; he has a nasty splitter and a tough slider and hes learned a changeup, an effective weapon to keep hitters off balance. Seitzer liked, despite Gausmans relative dominance, his pitch count hitting 100 in the sixth inning, which forced him from the game. Theres also been some griping about recent umpires strike zones. Players have done a good job of not embarrassing the men in blue, quietly voicing displeasure without causing a scene. Seitzer had a way of handling such situations when he played. "Dont show them up, dont show body language, dont get them all mad but you have to let them know that you know that pitch was outside," said Seitzer. If Seitzer felt a called strike was a few inches off the plate, hed murmur as much to the umpire. A third baseman and first baseman in his playing days, Seitzer often would speak to the same umpire the next day and would receive admissions of missed calls. He said the conversations often helped to develop friendships with the umpires. One thing he doesnt want his pupils doing: going out of the strike zone because the umpire has a wide one. "The thing Im telling the guys is you cant change your zone," said Seitzer. "You dont want to expand because once you start expanding a little bit then youll expand more. You dont even want to deal with those pitches until two strikes when youre battling and protecting but I dont want you protecting four inches off the plate even with two strikes because, number one, you probably will miss it and number two, if you do put it in play youre going to be out because itll be softly hit." Seitzers ability to relate to hitters is, in part, a result of the experiences he had during his own career. In 1993, following his release by Oakland, Seitzer returned for a second stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. He made a decision. As an experiment, he would no longer allow himself to be affected by negative thoughts. If he went 0-for-5 in a game, hed arrive at the park the next day repeating to himself Youre hot, youre hot until he was convinced the previous nights donut was an aberration. There were times when his hitting coach thought he was crazy. Seitzer said he never went into a prolonged slump in either 1994 or 1995 and in those two seasons he posted OPSs of .828 and .815. Reflecting, Seitzer said his mental experiment laid the groundwork for his future career in coaching although he didnt know it at the time. Hed like Jays hitters to apply his theory. "We have to let that transition again back to the good," said Seitzer. "I said dont fight, dont force, dont try and do too much and dont get mad about it and just keep competing; compete each at-bat." Despite the recent team-wide slump, Toronto continues to lead baseball with 91 home runs (Colorado is second with 84) and is second in OPS (.769). Blips happen. The statistics suggest the Blue Jays will come around. A tough week doesnt negate a strong two-month stretch. "Ill admit I was extremely spoiled rotten watching this offence go night after night," said Seitzer. "Hopefully we can get this sucker turned around quick." HOUSTON - The first two times the Houston Texans had the No. Cheap NFL Jerseys Free Shipping . 1 overall pick in the draft, they chose quarterback David Carr and defensive end Mario Williams. Odds are that theyll use this years top choice on one of those two positions again. South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is widely considered the best player available in this years draft. Pairing him with 2012 Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt could give the Texans the best 1-2 pass-rushing punch in the NFL. The problem is that while Houston could use another game-changing defensive player, the need at quarterback is more dire. The Texans traded Matt Schaub in the off-season after a terrible year in which he was benched after six games. The Texans signed veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in the off-season, but he probably isnt the long-term solution to their quarterback woes. Several talented quarterbacks in this draft have questions attached to them concerning whether they are cant-miss prospects worthy of the No. 1 pick. Considered the best of the crop are Texas A&Ms Johnny Manziel, Louisvilles Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles of Central Florida. Some worry that Manziels size will be a detriment in the NFL. Bridgewater had a bad pro day. Bortles has taken criticism because of his limited mobility. Manziel is somewhat of a folk hero in Texas after winning the Heisman Trophy in 2012. Billboards imploring the Texans to "Keep Johnny Football in Texas" dot the freeways around Houston, and Manziel, of course, has said hed love to play here. Though the team is under different management than in 2006, Houston is unlikely to let public sentiment about not letting the homegrown player get away sway its decision. The Texans passed on former Texas quarterback Vince Young, who grew up in Houston and led the Longhorns to a national title, in favour of Williams the last time they had the first pick. Houston general manager Rick Smith did say this week his team would consider trading out of the top spot. "If we take the first pick, we know who we want," Smith said. "(But) we are obviously open to moving out of the first pick, if in fact there is an opportunity for us to do so and if we think that is in the best interest of the organization." Five things to know about the Texans heading into the draft: LATE-ROUND QBs: If the Texans do use their first pick on Clowney, recent history has shown they could still pick up a solid (or better) starting quarterback later in the draft. San Franciscos Colin Kaepernick was chosen in the second round in 2011, and Seattles Russell Wilson was taken in the third round a year later. "I think theres an idea of a traditional quarterback that is successful in the NFL and I think those two examples are guys that dont necessarily fit the ideal mode. And I think theyve also given people some confidence that you dont necessarily need to have a traditional type of quarterback to be successful in our league," Smith said. CANT GET ENOUGH: Though Smith shied away from discussing specific needs of his team on draft day, he did acknowledge one thing. "There are two positions that I never think you can have too many of: corners and tackles," he said. NEW PROCESS: Smith is adjusting to new coach Bill OBrien after working on the draft with Gary Kubiak, who was fired in December, for the last seven seasons. "The opportunity to step outside of that comfort zone, and learn something, gives me a chance to grow personally and professionally," Smith said. "That was a fun part of it." NO LOVE FOR Defence: Williams was the last defensive player selected with the first overall pick when Houston chose him in 2006. Before that, the last player on that side of the ball to go first was Penn State defensive end Courtney Brown to the Browns in 2000. The Texans have overwhelmingly gone with defence in the early rounds, choosing defenders with 14 of their 17 first- and second-round picks since 2004. FINE WITH THE MOVE: This years draft was pushed back from its usual time in April to May because Radio City Music Hall was unavailable. Smith was perfectly happy with the change for at least this year. "To have the first pick, the extra time has been good," Smith said. "I think that I enjoyed the schedule and the rhythm of the draft in April and would probably want to see it moved back, but Im enjoying it the fact that its in May this year for our selfish purposes." TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on Eric Bledsoe of the Suns, Isaiah Thomas of the Kings, the potential return of Kobe Bryant, Kyle Korver of the Hawks, Evan Turner of the Sixers and the Raptors current situation. Wholesale NFL Jerseys Authentic . 1. Eric Bledsoe (Suns): Love how hes playing. This guy competes; plain and simple. Love his defensive intensity and ability to disrupt your flow, averaging close to two steals per game. His efficiency (50 per cent) has been impressive considering hes a below average distance shooter but he can get in the lane and break you down off the bounce. Finishes at the rim: fearless. Hes putting up major numbers (20.4 ppg and 4.6 rpg / close to seven assists per game) and was a wonderful pickup. The opportunity is there for him and hes taking advantage. 2. Isaiah Thomas (Kings): This little guy gets everything out of his game and then some. No back down and his quickness and change of speeds are tough to guard. Really improved. Averaging close to 18 ppg and close to five assists per game. Shoots it well from 3-point range at 43 per cent and is a major pest defensively. Always love to root for the underdogs and wasnt a high pick like teammate Jimmer Fredette yet hes got all of his minutes. Its not about your draft slot, its always decided between the lines. Respect him. 3. Kobe Bryant (Lakers): Lots of chatter out of LA that hes ahead of schedule with his rehab from a torn achilles. Im a huge fan and hes one of the greats of this era. Wont find a nastier guy when the game is on the line. Want him on my side. Fingers crossed that he doesnt rush it back. The mans got incredible will and drive but I hope that he takes it easy and makes sure hes being very cautious before he steps out there on the court. His pride will get the best of him once hes in the games so make sure you can demand lots of yourself and perform at a relatively high level before you subject yourself to the scrutiny. Look forward to seeing him (Raptors are in LA on Dec 8) yet for the sake of his health and the game, I want to see him when hes truly ready. 4. Kyle Korver (Hawks): I watch this guy and hes the model of efficiency and has outstanding feel for what exactly his role is. The man shoots it (54 per cent and 51 per cent from long distance) and gets you 13 ppg which is very respectable. Really good at moving without the ball and cuts hard and is masterful at his screen usage. Excellent catch and shoot game and can create with a bounce or two. Spaces the floor out and opens major driving lanes for teammates like Jeff Teague which makes everyone better. Each place he has played (Philadelphia, Utah and Chicago), his coaches and teammates respect his professionalism and value of team play. Its no surprise that he stays at a good level, he knows exactly whats expected of him and he delivers on it. 5. Evan Turner (Sixers): Having a terrific start to the season (22 ppg and 6.3 rpg/47 per cent shooting) after being considered a disappointment early in his career. Very strong guy whos one of the best rebounding guards in the league. Explosive at the point of attack and gets to the rim and finishes with authority. Seems to be more relaxed and having fun playing for new coach Brett Brown. Some guys just take longer and more importantly style of play many times sets the tone for a career path. The Sixers go up and down and play fast and this better suits his game. In open space and quick rapid fire action/reaction situations, he thrives. 6 Toronto Raptors: I know, I know, I must have had a little something extra in my cup of tea this morning but hey what the heck! The Raps are playing for top spot in the Atlantic Division Wednesday at Philly. Whod have thunk it? Lets get the W and no Looking back. Atlantic Division Champs - Playoffs - Home Court: Dare to dream a little bit. Wouldnt that be fun? None of us saw it coming with the Raps winning the division. I doubt it will happen but lets have some fun for a change and value winning. However, it will be far from the first professional football game the nations capital has seen. For almost a century they were known as the Rough Riders (not to be confused with the Roughriders from Saskatchewan). Then, after a six year absence, the city returned to the CFL with the Renegades for a short and controversial four-year stint. Now after a time where some thought it could never happen, football has returned to Ottawa with a new name, a new group of players and new optimism. Looking back at their long history, Ottawa definitely has had some proud - and not so proud - moments on and off the gridiron. The Early Years Before they were the Rough Riders, they were simply known as the Ottawa Football Club, formed in 1876. It wasnt until 1898 when they changed their name to the Rough Riders. For a five-year stint from 1925-30, they were called the Ottawa Senators before changing the name back. In the early 1950s Ottawa hosted the NFLs New York Giants for a pair of exhibition games, losing both times. They won four Grey Cup championships (1925, 1926, 1940 and 1951) before the Canadian Football League officially formed in 1958. The Glory Years The Rough Riders won five Grey Cups under the CFL umbrella from 1960-76 (1960, 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1976) with Frank Clair manning the sidelines as head coach and Canadians such as quarterback Russ Jackson, receiver Whit Tucker, running back Ron Stewart and tight end Tony Gabriel leading the charge on the gridiron. Jackson of Hamilton, Ont. is widely considered to be the greatest Canadian-born quarterback to play in the CFL and is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Football of Fame and Canadas Sports Hall of Fame. He even finished eighth - and as the top Canadian - in TSNs ranking of the top 50 CFLers of all-time. Ottawa could run during those successful years as well. Rough Riders running back Vic Washington has the record for longest rushing touchdown in Grey Cup history with an 80-yard scamper during their 1968 Grey Cup victory over the Calgary Stampeders. Their final championship season came in 1976 and is probably the most notable. Burlingtons Tony Gabriel caught a deep touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Clements with just 20 seconds remaining in the final quarter to defeat their hated rivals, the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-20. It became known as simply "The Catch" and was arguably the greatest moment in Rough Riders history as well as one of the most memorable Grey Cup plays ever. Ottawa made one more Grey Cup final appearance in 1981 against the Edmonton Eskimos - a game in which they blew a 19-point halftime lead to lose 26-23. With nine championships, the Rough Riders are fourth all-time in Grey Cup victories behind the Argonauts (16), Eskimos (13) and Blue Bombers (10). The Decline From 19883 to the end of their existence in 1996, the Rough Riders never put together another winning season and didnt win a single playoff game. Wholesale Jerseys China. . As the team struggled mightily, fans stopped coming out and the franchise lost money at a rapid rate. One positive note from this era came in 1988 when Jo-Anne Polak was named co-general manager of the team, which made her the first woman to be appointed to an executive title in CFL history. On the other side of the spectrum, there was the time when Ottawa management drafted a dead man. Derrell Robertson was a defensive end who played one season with the Las Vegas Posse in 1994 during the CFLs doomed American expansion. Shortly after the season, the 27-year-old died in a car accident. With the Posse folding after just one season, all their players became available through a dispersal draft and Ottawa drafted Robertson fully believing he was alive and well. Not a great moment for a franchise that was on its last legs. The team folded in 1996, 120 years after the Ottawa Football Club played their first game against the Aylmer Club at Jacques-Cartier Square. Franchise Records Most Career Touchdowns: Bob Simpson (Windsor, Ont.) - 70 Most Career Passing Yards: Russ Jackson (Hamilton, Ont.) - 24, 592 yards Most Career Passing Touchdowns: Russ Jackson - 185 Most Passing Touchdowns in a Season: Damon Allen (American) - 34 in 1990 Most Career Rushing Yards: Dave Thelen (American) - 6, 917 Most Career Receiving Yards: Tony Gabriel (Burlington, Ont.) - 7, 484 Most Career Receptions: Tony Gabriel - 444 Back With The Renegades In 2002, Ottawa was back in the CFL game, this time with the Renegades. Hope was back in the nations capital with an entirely new franchise, but it ultimately didnt last very long. Over four seasons, the Renegades would win only 23 games and never got a sniff of the post-season. On April 9, 2006 the CFL suspended operations of the franchise after low attendance and unstable ownership from the Glieberman family. Football was done in Ottawa - again. A New Hope In 2008, a group led by Ottawa 67s owner Jeff Hunt was awarded a conditional CFL franchise that would become the Redblacks. After getting approval for a redevelopment of Lansdowne Park and the hiring of general manager Marcel Desjardins as well as head coach Rick Campbell, Ottawa was finally ready to start putting another team together. Receiver Fred Rouse, defensive lineman Dimetrio Tyson and defensive back Nick Turnbull became the first signings in franchise history. They would later sign free agent and veteran quarterback Henry Burris to a contract. The Redblacks have gone 0-2 so far in 2014, losing games on the road to the Blue Bombers and Eskimos. With a rejuvenated fan base and stable ownership along with a fairly strong team by expansion standards, this version of Ottawa football seems like its here to stay. And thats all football fans in the nations capital want to hear. ' ' '

Meanwhile, 10th-seeded 6-foot-5 rising Canadian Milos Raonic handled diminutive Italian Thomas Fabbiano, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 and 35-year-old 12th- seeded German Tommy Haas eased past Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1, on a warm, breezy day at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The powerful Raonic unleashed 28 aces, compared to zero by the overmatched Fabbiano. A surprising Day-2 upset came when 30-year-old Argentine qualifier Maximo Gonzalez upended hurting 14th-seeded 6-foot-8 Pole Jerzy Janowicz, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Stitched NFL Jerseys. Janowicz, who was slowed by a back injury on Tuesday, reached his first- ever Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon just last month. "I could barely walk, I couldnt practice," Janowicz said. "I couldnt find a normal position to sleep. "Im so unlucky every time in New York," said Janowicz, who strained a leg muscle four days before the U.S. Open last year before going on to lose to a world No. 1,098 Dennis Novikov, then a UCLA sophomore, also in the opening round. He joked, "Maybe Im practicing too hard for New York." A milder upset occurred when Uzbekistans Denis Istomin tripped up 15th-seeded struggling Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Twenty-eighth seeded Juan Monaco of Argentina retired against Florian Mayer with the German leading 6-4, 6-2, 3-0 in the third set. Also on Tuesday, 22nd-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber whipped 17-year-old American Collin Altamirano, making his ATP-level debut, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1; Portuguese Joao Sousa erased 25th-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2; 26th-seeded American Sam Querrey bested Argentine Guido Pella, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-1, 6-2; and 31st-seeded quality Frenchman Julien Benneteau got past Polands Michal Przysiezny, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Also advancing was French former top-10 star Gael Monfils, who drubbed Romanian Adrian Ungur, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, to set-up a second-rounder with Isner. In other matches involving Americans, Jack Sock was beating Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 5-2 when the German retired, Donald Young tattooed Slovak Martin Klizan, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 and Denis Kudla defeated Jiri Vesely, 6-2, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5. PHILADELPHIA -- Steve Mason and the Flyers are playing their best hockey of the season heading into the Olympic break. Air Max 1 Clearance Sale . Its a break team chariman Ed Snider would love to abolish. Mason stopped 38 shots, and Mark Streit and Michael Raffl scored goals, leading the Philadelphia Flyers past the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 on Thursday night. Mason blanked Detroit 5-0 on Jan. 28 and stopped the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 on Feb. 1. He was only 2:50 away from his fourth shutout of the season, and third in five games, when Nathan MacKinnon beat him for his 21st goal of the season. Mason stopped his first 33 shots. Mason, who signed a three-year extension last month, has been the key reason the Flyers have been able to hang around in the Eastern Conference playoff race. With one game left before the break, the Flyers recent spurt could stall because of the Olympics. "I hate them," said Snider, the Flyers founder. He added: "Its ridiculous, the whole thing is ridiculous. I dont care if it was in Philadelphia, I wouldnt want to break up the league. I think its ridiculous to take three weeks off, or however long it is, in the middle of the season. It screws up everything. .. How can anybody be happy breaking up their season. No other league does it, why should we? Theres no benefit to us whatsoever. If anything, I can only see negatives." Reminded the Flyers reached the Stanley Cup finals during the last Olympics in 2010, Snider laughed. "Maybe I like them," he said. "I forget about that." Claude Giroux, who scored an empty-netter with 20 seconds left, has plenty of time to rest during the break. He was snubbed Thursday by Hockey Canada when Martin St. Louis was picked as an injury replacement for his Tampa Bay teammate Steven Stamkos. Steve Yzerman, the Canadians executive director and Tampa Bays general manager, chose St. Louis over Giroux and Pittsburghs James Neal. "Its a farce," Snider said. "Hes one of the best players in the game. Its ridiculous. Hes better than half the guys on that team. "Anybody that thinks that Claude Giroux doesnt belong on the Canadian team, they dont know anything about hockey as far as Im concerned. Its politics, to a certain degree. He had to pick his own guy. His own guy is good, but Claude is better." The Avalanche, who lost 5-1 to the New York Rangers on Tuesday, couldnt solve Mason until it was too late. The Avalanche called timeout with 1:27 left and pulled goalie Semyon Varlamov in a last-gasp effort at the tying goal. It didnt work. The Flyers scored in the second period, when Streits shot from the blue line was deflected by a defenceman and wobbled past Varlamov for his eighth goal. Streit is heading to his fourth Olympics for Switzerland. The Flyers got a scare when centre Brayden Schenn was checked from behind into the boards by Patrick Bordeleau. Schenn quickly got on his skates, and his teammates went after Bordeleau behind the net. Bordeleau threw his right elbow into Schenns back and the Flyer thumped the board, and then hit the ice. Bordeleau was hit with 5 minutes for checking from behind and a game misconduct. Colorado coach Patrick Roy was red faced and furious as he argued with the officials that the hit didnt merit an ejection. Masons play picked up after a recent pep talk from Hall of Fame goalie Bernie Parent. Mason stopped 14 shots in the first period and made the save of the night in the second when he robbed Gabriel Landeskog with a glove save from his rear. "I think we didnt make it hard enough for him in the first 55 minutes," Landeskog said. "I think the last five, we were in his face, banging rebounds, and trying to bang one home there and made it hard on him. We started throwing pucks from different angles and tough angles and what not." Mason posted a 1.51 goals-against-average over his last four starts, stopped 95 per cent of his shots and had two shutouts. "The job as starting goalie every night is to make sure we provide stability back there, and thats what Im trying to do," he said. Raffls seventh goal of the season, off a nice pass by Sean Couturier from behind the net, early in the third was the insurance the Flyers needed to win their third straight. NOTES: The Flyers had a video tribute and a moment of silence for former coach and general manager Keith Allen. Allen died Tuesday. He was 90. "I love Keith Allen," Snider said. ... Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork. Cheap Air Max 90 .com) - Petr Mrazek stopped 25 shots and the Detroit Red Wings walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar and Darren Helm all scored for the Red Wings, who have won three of their last four. Kyle Quincey posted two assists. Mike Weber scored the only goal of the game for the Sabres, who have lost their last eight games. Michal Neuvirth gave up all three goals on 30 shots. In a pregame ceremony, the Sabres retired the number 39 of former goaltender Dominik Hasek. Darren Helm scored near the midway mark of the first period when he skated down the right wing and used a heavy wrister from the circle to beat Neuvirth to the far side for the short-handed marker. Detroit grabbed a 2-0 lead at 7:34 of the second on the power play. Pavel Datsyuk snapped a one-timer from the right point that hit off Justin Abdelkader in front. Nyquist was there to backhand the rebound for his 16th of the season. Buffalo got on the board six minutes later off a crisp rush play. Drew Stafford brought the puck in down the left wing and sent it over to the right for Brian Flynn, who sent it back to his left where a trailing Weber wristed it in for his first of the season. The Red Wings, though, got it back less than two minutes later as Quinceys right point shot was stopped, and Tatar was in front to slip a backhand under the pads of Neuvirth. Sedin scored his 300th career goal and added an assist as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-2 Thursday night. Vancouver (13-9-5) came in having lost seven of its past eight games, but a solid effort finally put an end to their recent struggles. That was of more interest to Sedin than his own stats. "When youre in the middle of the season you dont think too much about it, but Im sure after the season or looking back it will be different," said Sedin. "It was nice to help the team (win), thats for sure." With the Canucks playing the first of a four-game road trip, Sedin said picking up the win was instrumental in setting the tone for the next three. "This is a big road trip for us and to start with a win is going to give us a lot of confidence moving forward," said Sedin. "As a team we played pretty good. The (penalty kill) did a good job and the power play got one, too, so overall it was a good game." David Booth, Jason Garrison, Dale Weise and Mike Santorelli also scored for the Canucks. Roberto Luongo finished with 37 saves. Clarke MacArthur and Mika Zibanejad scored for the Senators (10-12-4). Craig Anderson allowed four goals on 15 shots before being replaced by Robin Lehner, who allowed one goal on 13 shots. With the loss the Senators, who beat the Washington Capitals 6-4 on Wednesday, are now 0-4-1 when playing back-to-back nights. Senators coach Paul MacLean said his team deserved the loss. "We got what we earned," said MacLean. "(Wednesday) night we got what we earned and 26 times a year so far weve gotten what weve earned whether that was wins or losses. Every night weve earned it and (Thursday) we earned it again." MacLean added the Sens continue to make too many mistakes. "We dont play hard enough on the forecheck. We dont play hard enough coming back. We dont play hard enough defensively. Our goaltenders arent playing hard enough. Were just not playing hard enough for long enough to have an opportunity to win." The difference in this one was the second period when the Canucks scored four goals as 17,931 at the Canadian Tire Centre looked on. "Quite honestly I thought weve played better games than (Thursdays) game," said Vancouver coach John Tortorella. "Its good to get a win for us. No complaints here. Weve lost some games we should have won and I thought we played well enough to win, but we still have a lot of thingss to work on. Cheap Air Max 90 Wholesale. quot; Daniel Sedin tied the game 1-1 just 31 seconds into the second period as he beat Anderson far side. Just 45 seconds later the Canucks took the lead on Booths second goal of the season as he beat Anderson cleanly. Booth has had his share of struggles and admitted its nice to contribute offensively. "I felt good on my skates so thats the biggest thing," said Booth. "But its over now and youve got to start gearing up for Saturday in New York." The Canucks then went on to make it 3-1 with a power-play goal as Garrison was left all alone in front. Ottawa has allowed at least one power-play goal in each of the last seven games. Midway through the period Weise picked up a Garrison rebound and beat a sprawled Anderson. Weise was one of the Canucks better players and if the team hopes to have any long-term success they are going to need secondary scoring. "This is what you need for good teams to win," said Weise. "We cant rely on the (Sedin) twins every night. Our secondary scoring has to pitch in and it has to be consistent." Less than 20 seconds after Weises goal Andersons night came to an end. The Senators managed to cut the lead in half as Zibanejad made it 4-2 with just over one minute remaining in the period. The Canucks made it 5-2 early in the third as Santorelli took advantage of a Jason Spezza giveaway behind the Ottawa net. Santorelli grabbed the puck, shot and then picked up his own rebound to beat Lehner between the legs. Strangely enough Ottawa got off to the start it wanted as MacArthur picked up his 100th career goal midway through the first to give the home team a 1-0 lead, but it was never able to capitalize on the momentum. "Its frustrating," said Ottawas Kyle Turris. "That lapse we had in the start of the second and then we played pretty well the last half of the second and the third. Weve got to execute coming out of our zone and weve got to be more crisp with the puck." With the win Vancouver continues to dominate the Senators. Vancouver has won six straight and 10 of the past 11 meetings between the clubs. Ottawa has lost three in a row and six of its last seven home meetings against the Canucks. Notes: D Patrick Wiercioch, D Jared Cowen and LW Matt Kassian were healthy scratches for the Senators. a The Canucks were without C Jordan Schroeder who is expected to miss another month with a sprained ankle. TORONTO -- After taking a sip of water at the start of his news conference, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis made sure to thank the players who were around last season and left on the first day of free agency. Adidas Baratos España . "I just wanted to thank them for what they attempted to do over the last 12 months and wish them all the best going forward," Nonis said. Attempted might be the most important word after the Leafs went from being almost surely playoff bound to collapsing with an eight-game losing streak. Gone from that group are centres Dave Bolland and Mason Raymond, who signed elsewhere Tuesday. In come defenceman Stephane Robidas, signed to a US$9-million, three-year deal, and forward Leo Komarov, signed to an $11.8-million, four-year deal, along with forward Matt Frattin, re-acquired in a trade that sent winger Jerry DAmigo to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Its Noniss hope that those players change the Leafs mix back to more of what it was like in the lockout-shortened 2013 season, when they made the playoffs. "The compete level that we had two years ago, I think was at or near the top of the league," Nonis said. "We got more out of our players, the coaches did, the players themselves did in terms of pushing each other, than we did last year -- no question about it. Some of the players that were talking about either were here and will help us get that back or have a history of doing that. That was a focus for us." Robidas at 37 brings 885 games of experience to Toronto, along with a right-handed shot. He broke his leg while playing in the playoffs for the Anaheim Ducks but started skating last week and expects to be ready for Day 1 of training camp. Komarov returns from the 2013 Leafs after a year with Dynamo Moscow of the KHL. He had four goals and five assists in 42 games that season, but the 27-year-old Finn is expected to have a much bigger role this time around. "Leo offers a lot more than I think even we got out of him two years ago," said Nonis, who met with Komarov in Finland and "laid that out so that he knew that he wasnt just a fourth-line guy that was playing six minutes a night, that we feel that he can do more." Komarovs return could help fill the void left by the departure of Bolland, who signed for five years and $27.5 million with the Florida Panthers. Bolland said on a conference call with local media that the Leafs were close to bringing him back. "We were getting there," the 28-year-old Toronto native said. "We were just a little bit apart." Nonis did not begrudge Bolland for taking the more lucrative deal with the Panthers. "We feel our offer was very fair, very strong, it reflected his value to us," he said. "He chose to go somewhere else, thats his right. Hell be a good player for them ... The only way to prevent that from happening was to spend more than we felt was appropriate, and I dont think thats something we wanted to get into." Raymond also got more money than the Leafs were willing to pay: three years and $9.5 million from the Calgary Flames. Being closer to home was part of the Cochrane, Alta., natives decision to go there. Even before signing in Calgary, Raymond expected changes around the Leafs under new president Brendan Shanahan and after the teams late-season collapse. "I think we all wouldve loved to finish a lot better," Raymond said in a phone interview. "When you have new management or different changes within the organization, that (roster moves are) susceptible to happen." What Bolland and Raymond have in common is they werent around for the Leafs somewhat-expected 2013 season that Nonis seems to want to replicate. Komarov and Frattin, who was sent to Los Angeles a year ago in the deal that brought goaltender Jonathan Bernier to the Leafs, were. "We talked a little about the chemistry that we had two years ago and the work ethic and i think players playing outside their comfort zone," Nonis said. "Those are two players that played a big part in it." Notes -- Nonis said if a trade for restricted-free-agent goaltender James Reimer was there and made sense, the Leafs would make it. Otherwise, he reiterated, Reimer could be back next season. ... The process of hiring assistant coaches is still ongoing with no resolution as of Tuesday. TORONTO -- Dwight Anderson did a lot of watching at his first practice with the Toronto Argonauts. Johnny Bench Jersey . Anderson joined the Argos on Tuesday, a day after the CFL club acquired the veteran defensive back from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a conditional 2015 draft pick. Anderson spent much of practice -- which was cut short by thunder and rain -- watching the Argos defence while talking with head coach Scott Milanovich, defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke and defensive backs coach Eddie Brown. The Bucs (4-9) beat the struggling Buffalo Bills 27-6 Sunday for their fourth win in five games following an 0-8 start that placed Schianos future in jeopardy. "We just dont quit, and that all starts with our head coach. Thats how he is," defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said. "Hes very consistent with his effort, and nothing really changes with how he prepares and how he comes to work every day that makes you want to work harder for that guy." Bobby Rainey scored on an 80-yard run on the second play of the game, Mike Glennon threw two touchdowns, and the McCoy-led defence forced five turnovers and sacked EJ Manuel seven times. "Our preparation is the same. Were just finishing games," McCoy said. "Were making the plays that we werent making before." The Bills have lost five of six, are assured of finishing without a winning record for the ninth straight year, and also are in danger of extending the NFLs longest current playoff drought to 14 consecutive seasons. Bills coach Doug Marrone held a team meeting after the game. "I find it very difficult after that game to stand up here and defend a lot of things," Marrone said. "I thought we played poorly. Actually, I shouldnt say I thought, I know we played poorly in all three phases," the coach added. "We had penalties. We had turnovers. We had misreads. We had missed tackles. We had things go wrong for us that there have been times during the year where weve been making improvement on it." Glennon wasnt exactly sensational coming off a 27-6 loss at Carolina, going 9 of 25 for 90 yards. But he had TD throws of 5 yards to Tim Wright and 38 to Vincent Jackson, who had three receptions for 70 yards to go over 1,000 for the season for the second straight year. Rainey finished with 127 yards on 22 carries. Buffalo, meanwhile, took up where it left off in a 34-31 overtime loss to Atlanta. "We just have to figure out whats going on with this team," said Manuel, the first-round draft pick out of Florida State who doubled his interception total for the season. "I think we really have to find our identity," the rookie added, " We have three games left, we really need to finish strong moving on into the off-season and things like that." After outgaining the Bills 169 yards to 38 while building a 14-3 lead in the first quarter, the Bucs were limited to 77 net yards the rest of the way to finish with 246. It didnt matter. With Manuel throwing two interceptions in the second quarter and two more in the third, the Bills never made a serious move to get back in the game, finishing with field goals of 40 and 46 yards by Dan Carpenter. Manuel hit C.J. Spiller on an 83-yard scoring play that was wiped out by a fourth-quarter holding penalty. Leodis McKelvin muffed a fair catch on a punt inside the Buffalo 20, and a roughing-the-passer penalty -- albeit a borderline call -- against Jairus Byrd helped set up Glennons TD pass to Wright that extended Tampa Bays lead to 24-3 at the half. Byrd also had the 22nd interception of his career, moving him into a tie for 10th on Buffalos all-time list. Stephon Gilmores pick six minutes later prevented Tampa Bay from turning McKelvins muff into points. Linebacker Lavonte David had two of Tampa Bays four interceptions. He also had a sack. "Were playing really good football right now, and it all starts with our defence, with how many turnovers theyre forcing," Glennon said. "With the way our defence was playing, we did what we needed to do as an offence, and they did the rest. Its nice to see the second half of the season were 4-1." Notes: Raineys TD came 18 seconds into the game, the fastest score in Bucs history. ... ANAHEIM, Calif. Vans Old Skool Baratas España . -- Zach Parise had a goal and two assists, Mikael Granlund scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the second period and Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves for the Minnesota Wild in a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Jason Pominville and Erik Haula also scored for the Wild, who are 9-3-1 in their last 13 games after ending December with six straight losses. Kuemper is 6-2-1 with a 1.85 goals-against average in nine starts since getting recalled from the minors on Jan. 2. Back indoors following their 3-0 victory at Dodger Stadium over the Kings on Saturday, the Ducks lost for only the fourth time in their last 25 games after coming in an NHL-best 39-10-5. Dustin Penner and Mathieu Perreault scored for Anaheim, and Jonas Hiller stopped 29 shots. After going 0 for 21 on the power play in its previous eight games, Minnesota took a 2-1 lead 13 seconds into the second period while Penner was off for slashing Jonas Brodin. Granlund cruised down the slot and redirected Parises cross-ice feed past Hillers stick for his fourth goal. Both of Minnesotas third-period goals came on deflections of shots by defenceman Marco Scandella from the left point -- one by Parise with 13:25 remaining, the other by Haula with 10:39 to play. Pominville opened the scoring at 7:57 of the first with his 21st of the season, banking the puck in off Hillers left leg from behind the net after Granlunds one-timer from the high slot was blocked by Matt Beleskey. Penner tied it at 18:13 with his 13th goal, beating Kuemper high to the glove side with a one-timer from the left circle after Ryan Getzlaf set him up from behind the net. But Penner went to the penalty box just 19 seconds later, setting up the power play that resulted in Granlunds goal. Defenceman Luca Sbisa returned to the Ducks lineup for the first time since Nov. 22 after missing 29 games because of a torn tendon in his right hand, and picked up the first two penalties of the game -- both for hooking in the opening period. The Ducks got their first power-play opportunity at 7:34 of the second after a holding call against Mike Rupp, but looked as though they were the ones who were short-handed. Hiller stoned Matt Cooke on a 5-foot wrist shot to the glove side, and the Wild had a 2-on-1 moments later before Ryan Suters 40-foot wrist shot from the left circle slid just wide of the right post. Anaheim began an 11-game stretch in which all but one will be on home ice, including five straight at Honda Center coming out of the Olympic break. NOTES: Anaheim D Cam Fowler blocked a slap shot by Nino Niederreiter with 35 seconds left in the second period and slumped to the ice, but continued playing while favouring his right leg until the horn sounded. However, Jim Popp isnt sure how long hell be able to admire wide receiver Duron Carter. CUIABA, Brazil -- Blundering Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was bailed out by teammate Alexander Kerzhakov in a 1-1 draw with South Korea in the World Cup on Tuesday that exposed both teams deficiencies. Akinfeev had already looked suspect in dealing with long-range shots before spilling Lee Keun-hos speculative effort into his own net in the 68th minute, gifting South Korea the lead at the Arena Pantanal. Kerzhakov, though, came to Akinfeevs rescue by turning in a shot from close range six minutes later -- just three minutes after coming on as a substitute -- to earn Russia a point from a poor-quality Group H match. Akinfeev stayed on the ground inside his own net, head in his hands, after making his error, clearly embarrassed after dropping what was a routine save from a shot from about 30 yards. He was consoled by a couple of teammates, who patted him on the back. "It was a kids mistake," Afinkeev said. "The goalkeeper of the national team shouldnt make mistakes like this one." Russia coach Fabio Capello has remained loyal to Akinfeev this season despite some patchy form, and stood by him again. "He is a great goalkeeper," Capello said. "There can be mistakes, of course -- some can get a penalty wrong ... and its logical for a goalkeeper to make a mistake as well. "We were able to make up for that and we can accept a mistake by a great keeper like Akinfeev." The explosive six-minute spell that featured both goals was not in keeping with the rest of a fairly mundane game characterized by slow build-up play, poor passing and wayward finishing. A point leaves both teams behind Belgium, which beat Algeria 2-1 earlier Tuesday, but the group appears wide open based on the opening two fixtures. Having lost four of its last five games heading to Brazil, the South Koreans came into their eighth straight World Cup with concerns over their flimsy defence andd a lack of goal threat. Vans Old Skool Baratas Online. A 4-0 thrashing by Ghana in a warm-up in Miami last week highlighted those worrying deficiencies perfectly. There was no hiding their toothless attack here, either, with the experienced Park Chu-young starting as the lone striker but justifying fears that he has lost his way after three ineffective years with Arsenal in the English Premier League. He was substituted in the 56th and his replacement, Lee, scored South Koreas goal. Russia, led by former England coach Fabio Capello, was just as lifeless in attack -- at least until Kerzhakov and Alan Dzagoev came off the bench -- and too functional in midfield. A dire first half was marked by the large contingent of Brazilian fans in the crowd doing slow hand clapping but South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo was satisfied by what he saw. "In such a tournament, the first match is the most difficult," Hong, who captained the nation to the semifinals of the 2002 World Cup, said through a translator. "There is a lot of pressure on it so I thought the players played very well." Save for a shot by Son Heung-min that flew over the bar in the 39th when the forward was free at the edge of the area, there was barely a chance created in the first half. Capello stood with his hands on his hips in the technical area throughout the first 45 minutes, looking distinctly unimpressed. There was a major improvement after the break, although it required the mistake by Akinfeev to really get the game going. However, South Korea couldnt hold on and when Dzagoevs cross-shot was spilled out by goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong and defender Hwang Seok-hos clearance went straight at Andrei Yeshchenko, Kerzhakov was on hand to bundle home from inside the six-yard box. "I thanked them for their reaction," said Capello, who turns 68 on Wednesday. "It was the greatest birthday present I could receive." ' ' '
Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork. Cheap Air Jordan 3 Free Shipping .com) - Alex Galchenyuk posted his first career hat trick to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. Brandon Prust also scored and Max Pacioretty supplied three assists for the Canadiens, who won their third straight game. Carey Price made 25 saves in the win. It feels great. My linemates made it easy for me. I had a lot of fun out there tonight, Galchenyuk said. We had good chemistry tonight. Victor Rask supplied Carolinas lone goal and Cam Ward gave up all four goals on 29 shots in his teams sixth straight loss. You have to believe that you are going to score, Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters said. We have to quit dropping the stick as tight as we are and shoot to score when you go to the net. Early on, David Desharnais took a cross-ice feed from Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and skated down the left side to below the goal line, dragging Ward out of position. Prust received a pass from Desharnais and buried the puck into a wide-open net to open the scoring 9:15 into the contest. Galchenyuk increased Montreals lead with a wrister from the right circle off a tic-tac-toe passing play at 8:33 of the second. After an errant pass from a Canadiens defender, Jeff Skinner skated behind the net and wristed a shot from the right circle. Price made the stop, but did not know where it was. Rask barreled through the crease and chopped it past the goal line for a 2-1 game 6:47 into the final stanza. Galchenyuk put the game away with two late goals separated by just 1:09. He broke into the Carolina zone on a breakaway and beat Ward blocker side at 16:41. Pacioretty tracked down a loose puck at the left circle and slid a pass to Galchenyuk, who completed the hat trick with a quick wrister to account for the final score with 2:10 to play. Numbers Game looks at the Nationals acquisition of Doug Fister. The Nationals Get: RHP Doug Fister. Fister, 29, has been a highly-effective, if underrated, pitcher for the last three seasons. While his record in that span is merely 35-32, Fister has a 3.30 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Early in his career, Fister wasnt much of a strikeout pitcher, relying on his sinker to generate groundball outs, striking out 5.0 per nine innings over his first two seasons. However, Fister got much better as a strikeout pitcher upon arriving in Detroit, throwing significantly more breaking balls. For example, in his second major league season, with Seattle, Fister threw either a slider or curve on 18.7% of his pitches. Over the last three years, that has increased from 32.6% to 33.6% to 34.6% last season. So, even with lacklustre velocity, including a fastball that averages 88.6 MPH, Fister has seen his strikeout numbers climb. In 70 games with the Tigers, Fister has whiffed 7.2 batters per nine innings, which isnt dominant, but is dramatically better than his first couple of seasons with the Mariners. All told, Fister has a fWAR of 13.3 over the last three seasons, which ranks ninth among starting pitchers in that span. Seriously, ninth! What were indicating here is that, while he may not have the name recognition, Doug Fister is a very good starting pitcher. Fister hasnt faced a lot of National League competition, making five career Inter-League starts, but has a 2.23 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 35 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings, an indication (in a very small sample) that the move to the NL shouldnt pose a problem. Fister, who made $4-million in 2013, is arbitration-eligible for the next couple seasons, but is ultimately very affordable for a starting pitcher is of his calibre. Joining a Washington Nationals rotation that already includes Stephenn Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez makes it easy for Fister to come in and perform, without any pressure to be the staff ace. Wholesale Air Jordan 3 Cheap. Theres a whole lot to like about this deal for the Nationals. Its the kind of trade that could put them over the top as contenders next season. The Tigers Get: INF Steve Lombardozzi, LHP Robbie Ray and LHP Ian Krol. Lombardozzi is a 25-year-old utility player who has played at least 20 games at second base, third base and left field in the course of his two-plus major league seasons. He doesnt hit for power (.342 career slugging percentage) and doesnt get on base (.297 career on-base percentage) so, without notable offensive improvement, hes no more than a fill-in at the major league level. Ray, a 22-year-old southpaw, was a 12th-round pick of the Nationals in 2010. Splitting the 2013 season between High-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg, Ray was 11-5 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, striking out 160 in 142 innings. He could develop into a major league starting pitcher, but hes not there yet and that means there is risk in his projection. Krol, 22, is a lefthanded reliever who pitched 32 games for the Nationals last season, posting a 3.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 27 1/3 innings, striking out 22 and walking eight. Those are respectable enough numbers and, given his age, its fair to expect improvement, but lefthanded relievers have a limited impact on the game as a whole. Krols presence should allow Drew Smyly to move into the Tigers rotation, taking Fisters place. Smyly was excellent in relief last season, posting a 2.39 ERA and 1.03 WHIP, with 81 strikeouts in 76 innings. Even if Smyly is a wonderful addition to the Tigers starting rotation, that wont justify the relative pittance that Detroit received in return for Fister. DETROIT -- Third baseman Miguel Cabrera is out of the starting lineup for Detroits game against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night. Phillip Gaines Jersey . Cabrera has been bothered by a strained left abdominal wall for more than a month. The reigning AL MVP made an early exit from each of the Tigers last two games. Cabrera leads the majors with a .359 average and 130 RBIs, and his 43 home runs put him four behind Baltimores Chris Davis. He is seeking his second consecutive Triple Crown. General manager Dave Dombrowski said doctors and trainer Kevin Rand have assured them that Cabrera could not make the injury worse by playing. Manager Jim Leyland has delivered the same message since the slugger was originally injured. "Our primary concern with Miguel Cabrera is his health," Dombrowski said. "As much as anybody would, wed like to see him win the home run title, RBI title or Triple Crown, but hes playing for the good of the team." Cabrera left Thursdays win against Oakland in the fifth inning after hurting his abdomen while making an awkward slide. He was back in the lineup for Fridays game against Cleveland, but departed after two innings due to irritation of the abdominal area. Dombrowski said Cabrera probably could play on Saturday but the decision was to give him the day off. Detroit began the day with 7 1/2-game lead over second-place Cleveland in the AL Central. Ramon Santiago got the start at third base against the Indians and was in the ninth slot in the lineup. Torii Hunter moved back one spot to Cabreras usual lineup slot of third. Taron Johnson Jersey . No worries. By the time he walked off the 18th green, there was little doubt he was still the man to beat at the PGA Championship. McIlroy ripped off four straight birdies on the back side and closed with another at the 18th hole, shooting a 5-under 66 at Valhalla that left him one shot off the lead Thursday. Fridays second round coverage begins with live streaming on TSN.ca at 8:30am et/5:30am pt while TSNs coverage begins at 1pm et/10am pt. Coming off wins at the British Open and Firestone, McIlroy came into the final major of the year as an overwhelming favourite. Even with a major blunder at the 10th, where he knocked his second shot over a fence and took double bogey, he was right on the heels of Lee Westwood, Ryan Palmer and Kevin Chappell. "Im really happy with everything," McIlroy said. "Ive got a good thing going right now. Im trying to ride that momentum as much as I can." Then theres Tiger Woods, who cant seem to get anything going. Playing just four days after his back flared up at Firestone, forcing him to withdraw, Woods proclaimed himself fit but sprayed shots all over the course on the way to a 74 that left him tied for 111th late in the day. "That wasnt very good," said Woods, who made only one birdie -- and had to hole out from the fairway to do that. "A lot of bad shots." One landed in a creek. Another sent the gallery scrambling. Yet another rolled into a fenced-off area where fans can use cellphones, a good 30 yards right of the fairway. Too bad Woods couldnt call for help. "I didnt play as well as I wanted to. I didnt get a putt to the hole," he said. "Thats not a good combo." McIlroy was cruising along when he got to the 10th, having made three birdies on the front side. After putting his tee shot right in the middle of the fairway at the par-5 hole, he yanked the next one out of bounds. A man talking on his cellphone along the fence, not concerned at all with getting in the way, was stunned with he looked up to see a ball sailing over his head. Especially when he learned whose ball it was. "I was really annoyed," McIlroy said. "That second shot at 10 is the worst shot Ive hit in weeks. It came out of the blue." He took a penalty and a drop and missed the fairway with his next attempt as well, resulting in a 7. Still shaken by that miscue, McIlroy made bogey at No. Taron Johnson Bills Jerseys. 11 to slip to even on the day. Just like that, he pulled himself together. Four straight birdies pushed McIlroy right back up the leaderboard, and it could have easily been five in a row. A 12-footer slid over the edge of the cup at the 16th. At the final hole, McIlroy reached the green in two for an eagle try to share the lead. If curled off at the end, leaving him with a tap-in -- his eighth birdie of the round. "It could have been better," he said. "But a 66 the first day, thats a solid start." Westwood matched his best round ever at a major, making nine birdies as he carried over the momentum from a closing 63 at Firestone. The 41-year-old Englishman also had a double bogey on his 10th hole of day -- at No. 1, after starting on the back -- but closed with four straight birdies. "The golf course was all there in front of me. I just play it as I see it," said Westwood, who has had numerous close calls but never won a major championship. "Last week, I felt like I turned a corner." Chappell, a 28-year-old Californian in his fourth year on the PGA Tour, turned in a bogey-free round. The final major of the year has produced some unlikely champions -- remember Shaun Micheel? -- and Chappell hopes to be the latest. "I cant complain about being in the lead of any golf tournament," said Chappell, whose only professional win came on the Web.com Tour in 2010. "I just look forward to keeping it rolling." Palmer birdied five of the nine holes on the back side, which is where he started his round. He said the greens were more inviting than he expected. "I was surprised how soft they were," he said. "It was a pretty easy, relaxing nine for me." McIlroy was joined at 65 by Jim Furyk, Henrik Stenson, Edoardo Molinari and Chris Wood. For Furyk, it was another strong start in a tournament he nearly won a year ago. He took a lead to the final day at Oak Hill, only to lose to Jason Dufner by two strokes. Dufners title defence lasted only 10 holes. Plagued by a sore neck, he withdrew after a triple-bogey left his score at 8 over, probably ending his Ryder Cup hopes as well. He came in ranked No. 8 in the standings and hoping to somehow play well enough to stay in one of the nine qualifying spots. "I tried to do what I could to be able to compete some and give it a go," Dufner said, "but it is just pointless." TORONTO -- Milos Raonic wasnt at his best but was relieved to stay alive at the Rogers Cup. Cheap Discount Shoes Online . Despite a serve that was intimidating but not perfect and some erratic play, Raonic won two tiebreaks to beat American Jack Sock 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) on centre court Wednesday night at Rexall Centre. "All the difficulties getting through that match, facing break points two of my service games consecutively, doing a poor job in converting the chances I had," Raonic said. "All those things that maybe if it doesnt go your way you wouldve said, I wish I did this differently, and this and this in these situations, all that, lets say weight that might be on your shoulders, its the relief of that just sort of getting off." Amid chants of "Lets Go Milos," Raonic kept Canadian hope alive in the tournament. On Tuesday, all four men who played singles were eliminated, and Eugenie Bouchard bowed out in Montreal. Raonic cranked his serve up past 200 kilometres per hour, finishing with 15 aces that helped offset some struggles against Sock, who played some of his best tennis even in defeat. Raonic won 79 per cent of his first-serve points, below his stellar average, and failing to be perfect cost him the first set. The 23-year-old held serve in the second set before blowing Sock out in the tiebreak. Raonic needed another tiebreak -- this one tenser -- to finish off the match. "When you play him, usually when you get down a break, it usually means the sets over," Sock said. "Thats why he kind of is where he is though, he kind of comes up big in those moments." Raonic is something of a tiebreak specialist, and this match was no different. "I feel good in those situations," he said. "Especially if things are not going throughout the set the way I wouldve liked, Im not converting opportunities or giving away too many opportunities, I know that if I can get it to a tiebreak I can sort of tip the things in my favour." One thing that tipped the scales in Raonics favour was the crowd. Sock loved the "electric" and "fun" atmosphere but not everything he heard. "A couple of them were a little more rude than I thought," Sock said. "I thought he got treated pretty well last week in the States, and there were some pretty inappropriate comments tonight." Sock blamed himself for missed opportunities, adding that "the fans saying anything didnt change whether I missed those forehands by two inches or not." For his part, Raonic said he has "listened to much worse playing in other countries." Julien Benneteau of France awaits Raonic in the third round Thursday night. Benneteau upset 11th-seeded Ernests Gulbis Wednesday after beating former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in the first round. Raonic said he didnt expect his first match at the Rogers Cup to be perfect. Moving forward, he hopes for improvement. "I expect to play a little bit better tomorrow, but I dont know what that is," Raonic said. By edging Sock, Raonic can keep his recent momentum going. He won last weeks Citi Open in Washington by beating Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil in the first-ever all-Canadian final a month after becoming the first Canadian to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. Raonic came into the week tied for his career high in the rankings at No. 6 and now has a chance to keep climbing the ladder. The man atop those rankings, Novak Djokovic, got pushed to the limit earlier in the day before beating Gael Monfils 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2) in an emotional match. Monfils pulled out all the stops by hitting a between-the-legs shot and throwing his racket to hit the ball, and each player tried to ignite the crowd to get louder. "Hes probably the only guy in the world, tennis player, that I would pay a ticket to watch the match," Djokovic said of Monfils. "He loves jumping around, sliding, hes very unpredictable. You dont know what his next move is, so thats why hes so interesting." Monfils didnt endear himself to fans by arguing with chair umpire Gerry Armstrong after receiving a time violation, even as they were captivated by his dazzling play on the court. As a result, Djokovic had support behind him as he came back from a three games to one deficit in the third set. After finishing off two-hour, 40-minute classic in a lopsided tiebreak, Djokovic fist-pumped and yelled with excitement. Except for when he chided Armstrong for giving him a warning "for nothing" when he switched his racket, Monfils looked to be enjoying himself for most of the match. The most memorable part of the match was when Monfils threw his racket and kept running without it -- for "fun." Monfils made Djokovic had to earn this victory. "Hes simply the best at the moment," Monfils said of Djokovic. "At some stage of the match, you knew that you could not ace him or have any free points with your serve. This is tough. And then his timing is great, hes always on time, run good, different attacks. I think hes just the No. 1 for a reason." By avoiding what wouldve been the biggest upset of the tournament thus far, Djokovic kept alive the possibility of facing eighth-seeded Andy Murray in the quarter-finals. Murray had little trouble winning his opening match in Toronto, as he beat 19-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-2 in the first match of the day on centre court. Murray could have a major challenge in the near future in the form of Djokovic. "Its a tough draw, but its also good to play against someone like a Novak if you get that opportunity in the buildup to the U.S. Open," said Murray, who gets 12th-seeded Richard Gasquet in the next round. "You really see where your game is at." In other action, Gasquet beat hard-serving Ivo Karlovic 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3, fifth-seeded David Ferrer beat American qualifier Michael Russell 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, seventh-seeded Grigr Dimitrov beat Donald Young 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 15th-seeded Marin Cilic beat Malek Jaziri 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4), 17th-seeded Tommy Robredo beat Gilles Simon 7-5, 6-4, Kevin Anderson beat 16th-seeded Fabio Fognini 7-5, 6-2, Ivan Dodig beat Andreas Seppi 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) and Feliciano Lopez beat Tim Smyczek 7-5, 6-4. In doubles, Canadian Daniel Nestor and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic beat Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4. Discount Shoes Wholesale . DETROIT -- Dave Dombrowskis latest trade also felt like one of his most predictable. Matt Slauson Jersey . There was simply no way the Detroit general manager was going to sit idly by without addressing his teams bullpen. "Weve been working on trying to find someone in the bullpen for an extended period," Dombrowski said. "Its something weve been focused on for a while. For the month of July, at least." The Tigers added one of the games better relievers in a trade earlier this week, acquiring Joakim Soria from Texas, but that may only be the beginning of a significant overhaul in the way Detroit approaches the late innings. Manager Brad Ausmus stuck with his usual routine in Thursday nights win over the Los Angeles Angels, using Joba Chamberlain in the eighth and Joe Nathan in the ninth. But with Soria in the fold, Ausmus now has more options. Detroits bullpen woes are nothing new. The Tigers finally gave up on Jose Valverde as their closer last year, letting Joaquin Benoit handle that role instead. Benoit pitched well, but the grand slam he allowed to Bostons David Ortiz was perhaps the defining moment of baseballs entire post-season in 2013. Benoit left via free agency, and Detroit signed Nathan, who was coming off a sparkling season with the Rangers. The 39-year-old right-hander has slipped badly this year. Even after striking out the side to close out a 6-4 win Thursday, his ERA was an unsightly 5.73. Nathan has shown mild signs of improvement, posting a 3.68 ERA in his last 15 appearances, striking out 21 in 14 2-3 innings in that span. But statistically, Soria has been better this year than any of Detroits current relievers -- and the Tigers gave up a couple promising young arms to get him. Ausmus says hes keeping Nathan and Chamberlain in their usual roles for now -- but Sorias presence means the Detroit manager doesnt have to be overly patient with anyone. Soria struck out 42 with only four walks this season with Texas. As desperate as theyve seemed for bullpen help, the Tigers didnt have to do anything totally irrational to acquire it. Thursdays victory gave Detroit a seven-game lead in the AL Central. The Tigers have had an unusual season. Theyve had winning streaks of eight, seven, six and five, but they also went through a 9-20 stretch that briefly knocked them out of first place. "Even if you win 95 games -- which is real good -- youre losing 67. And there are streaks attached to that," Dombrowski said. "Were a little streakier than I thought we would be as far as losses are concerned. You dont really expect us with our starting pitching staff ... usually when you have strong starting pitching, and some good offence, which we have, that puts sort of a stop to those streaks." The starting rotation has been a strength of this team for the last couple years. Now, the goal is to assemble a bullpen that will enable the Tigers to succeed in tight games when runs are scarce. Chamberlain has been solid in his first season with the Tigers, and the addition of Soria should certainly help. But even if Nathan pitches better, Detroit could probably still use more depth. Left-handed relievers Ian Krol and Phil Coke have generally been erratic. If the Tigers reach the post-season, they could move lefty Drew Smyly from the rotation to the bullpen, where he excelled last year. But there could still be more moves on the way between now and then. "Were still open-minded to getting better," Dombrowski told reporters on a conference call after trading for Soria. "Our bullpen has been a situation that has been our major focus and I guess would continue to be our major focus if we are going to do something." Eric Ebron Jersey . Filip Forsberg, Colin Wilson and Roman Josi all scored while Ribeiro posted three assists for the Predators, who had lost their final two games before the All-Star break. Providence, RI (SportsNetwork. Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey .com) - Ryan Arcidiaconos layup and foul shot -- the last of his team-high 21 points -- with 3.6 seconds remaining was the deciding margin, as No. 9 Villanova kept rolling with a 82-79 double-OT decision against Providence on Tuesday. Arcidiacono, a threat from the outside, was instead allowed room on the left wing and banked the go-ahead bucket off the glass while being harmed by Kadeem Batts. Quick ball movement off the inbound put the game in the hands of LaDontae Henton, but his try from the left wing to send the game to a third overtime clanged off the front of the rim. JayVaughn Pinkston totaled 20 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats (23-3, 11-2 Big East), who received 17 points and nine boards from James Bell. Villanova pulled into a tie atop the conference with idle Creighton, who whipped the Cats, 101-80, in Omaha on Sunday. Bryce Cotton tallied a game-best 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Friars (17-10, 7-7). Batts picked up 21 points and 11 boards, with Josh Fortune adding 16 points in a valiant, losing cause. A 13-2 run ending just before the middle portion of the first half turned a two-point deficit into a nine-point bulge for the Friars. Tyler Harris capped it on a trey to make it 22-13. Arcidiaconos triple capped a 15-7 surge from the Wildcats to pull them within 29-28, and he connected once more from long distance in the final seconds. Cotton, though, hit two from the line to forge a 33-33 deadlock at the break. Nova provided some breathing room with a quick burst in the early stages of the second half, going up 44-39 just over six minutes in on a Daniel Ochefu slam. Villanova kept Providence at arms length from there, never letting the hosts climb closer than three until the final moments. Arcidiaconos two from the line provided a 63-58 edge for the Wildcats, but two free throws from Cotton and a three from Henton off a Bell miss evened the score with 20.6 seconds to go. Arcidiaconos last chance from beyond the arc came up short, and Hentons off- balance heave at the buzzer hit the rim. In the first extra session, Villanova erased a three-point deficit and went up by two on a Darrun Hilliard trey, but Cottons layup on the next trip down the floor evened the score. Arcidiacono missed an easy shot and the game slipped into a second OT. Game Notes: Villanova hosts St. Johns on Saturday, while Providence heads to Butler on Sunday ... Arcidiacono also totaled six rebounds and three steals, while Hilliard and Ochefu both finished with 11 points ... Fortune, who finished 4-of-5 from long range, also grabbed a game-high four steals ... The Wildcats connected on just 9-of-28 shots from beyond the arc in the triumph.
