LOS ANGELES (AP) — Already playing without top center Matt Duchene Dallas Stars T-Shirts Authentic , the Ottawa Senators could have thrown in the towel when Colin White sustained an injury early in the first period against the Los Angeles Kings.Instead, the young Senators showed their mettle to win consecutive road games for the first time this season.Chris Tierney scored twice and the Senators beat the Kings 4-1 on Thursday night.“Obviously Colin going down early, a lot of guys had to step up and play some big minutes, so I thought the whole team gave a 60-minutes effort,” Tierney said. “Every forward, every D, goalie, everybody was going.”Bobby Ryan had a power-play goal and Christian Wolanin also scored for the Senators, who won on back-to-back nights at Anaheim and Los Angeles. Anders Nilsson made 33 saves.“Over time we’re going to gain that maturity,” Ottawa coach Guy Boucher said. “That’s experience, and you can’t just ask for it and get it when you got such a young team. You can see it Dallas Stars Hoodies Authentic , pretty much everybody is growing.”Ottawa also got its first consecutive wins since a three-game streak Nov. 27-Dec. 1 despite losing White to an apparent upper-body injury on a check from Jake Muzzin.Boucher said White will return to Ottawa for further examination and would miss at least two weeks.“It was a major character win,” Boucher said. “It looked like we weren’t going to get much of a chance tonight, but our guys did a terrific job.”The Senators took the lead by scoring two goals 2:41 apart in the second period. Tierney put the Senators ahead 2-1 at 16:40 after Ryan scored on the power play at 14:59 to tie it at 1 and extend his point streak to six games.Mikkel Boedker got his 200th career assist on Tierney’s goal.Wolanin made it 3-1 at 1:22 of the third period. Tierney added an empty-netter at 19:02, giving him five points in his past three games.Tierney was equally pleased with the defensive effort, holding the Ducks and Kings to one goal each after allowing at least four goals seven times during an eight-game losing streak.Nilsson, who was traded from Vancouver to Ottawa on Jan. 2, did his part by stopping 65 of 67 shots against the two Southern California teams.“I thought we tweaked a couple things coming into this road trip and been paying off so far obviously,” Tierney said. “But you got to give a lot of credit to Nilly, he made a couple huge saves. Both games now he’s made timely saves that kept the game in reach and kept us with the lead here tonight.”Kyle Clifford scored and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Kings. The Kings went up 1-0 at 3:47 of the second period when Clifford redirected Muzzin’s shot. Clifford’s second goal in the past three games was little consolation for what he descried as an “awful” performance by the reeling Kings, who have lost four of five.“That’s just embarrassing to be honest,” Clifford said. “There’s not much more to say other than that.”NOTES: Senators D Ben Harpur Dallas Stars Hats Authentic , who did not play because of an upper-body injury, is also set to return to Ottawa for further examination. Boucher said Harpur will miss at least two weeks. … Duchene is not expected to rejoin the team for the conclusion of their three-game California trip at San Jose on Saturday following the birth of his son. … Kings D Alec Martinez returned after missing 14 games because of an upper-body injury.UP NEXTSenators: Visit San Jose on Saturday.Kings: Host Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Florida Panthers were supposed to be serious playoff contenders this season, and the New York Islanders, well, weren’t.But through roughly the first-eighth of this season, the opposite seemed true. The Islanders, who visit the Panthers on Saturday night at the BB&T Center, entered the weekend atop the Metropolitan Division with 18 points and an 8-5-2 record.Article continues below ...New York hasn’t seemed bothered by what many hockey writers predicted would be a catastrophe for the franchise — superstar center John Tavares’ decision to bolt to the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent.“We know we can play with anyone,” Islanders center Mathew Barzal said of his team sans Tavares. “We know we can beat anyone.”Meanwhile, the Panthers, who finished just one point short of the playoffs last season and then traded for winger Mike Hoffman — who has averaged better than 25 goals in each of the past four seasons — entered the weekend tied for last in the NHL with 11 points. But it appears Florida’s fortunes are changing. Goalie Roberto Luongo Custom Dallas Stars Jerseys , a sure-fire Hall of Famer, injured his right knee in the season opener. Ever since he got back, the Panthers are undefeated at 2-0-0.“It’s good to get on a roll,” said Luongo, who has a stellar 1.19 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage in three games this season. “We’ve got to keep pushing hard.”Assuming Luongo gets the start Saturday, he will be facing an Islanders team that has lost two straight games, allowing eight goals during that span.Winger Evgenii Dadonov leads the Panthers this season in goals (seven) and points (14). Hoffman is tied for third on the team with 11 points, and he also has a career-best 10-game points streak. In 25 years of Panthers history, only three other players have had points streaks of that duration – Pavel Bure, Olli Jokinen and Jussi Jokinen.“I guess it’s good,” Hoffman modestly said of his streak. “You’ve got to get a couple of lucky breaks to have a streak like that www.officialredwings.com , but I’m just trying to help the team win as many games as possible.”Hoffman leads Florida in power-play goals (three) and power-play shots (43). He has led a Panthers power play that has recovered since starting the season with no goals in 13 tries. In their last five games, Florida has gone 7 of 23 on its power play.As for the Islanders, they are led in scoring in points by Josh Bailey (17) and in goals by Brock Nelson (seven). In goal, the Islanders have Thomas Greiss and Robin Lehner. Greiss is 4-2-1 with a 1.98 GAA and .940 save percentage. Lehner is 4-3-1 with a 2.53 GAA and a .924 save percentage. One issue for the Islanders is that left winger Matt Martin, who has three goals in 11 games this season, has an upper-body injury. If he can’t play against the Panthers, that would be the fourth straight game he has missed.Florida is relatively healthy, especially now that Luongo is back. Most of the Panthers’ current injuries are to players who are bottom-six forwards or Mark Pysyk, who is one of their bottom-three defensemen. In other words, Florida’s injuries are manageable now that Luongo has returned.
