for London mulling a loss.Powered by a dominant running game Youth Joe Barksdale Jersey , big plays from quarterback Philip Rivers and a rookie kicker who didn't miss in his NFL debut, the Chargers rolled to a 38-14 win on Sunday over the Cleveland Browns and rookie QB Baker Mayfield, who got little help from his teammates.Nearly two years after leaving FirstEnergy Stadium in disgrace after the Browns beat them for their only win in 2016, the Chargers (4-2) won their third straight and made sure their next few days would be enjoyable."Coming across the country and playing in a hostile environment, they executed well, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. "That's the way it's supposed to look."Los Angeles will stay in Cleveland before flying later this week to England to face Tennessee on Sunday."It was good," said Rivers, the 36-year-old QB who continued one of the best starts of his 15-year career. "It was even better because we're going to be here a while. You don't let those negative thoughts creep in, but I was telling (defensive end) Melvin (Ingram) as were coming off of the bus, 'We can't lose this game and then stay four or five days.' I couldn't think of anything much worse."And that's no knock on Cleveland. The Chargers played their best all-around game this season against the Browns (2-3-1), who were competitive in their first five games but were overwhelmed by a Los Angeles team that might not be getting the attention it deserves.Melvin Gordon rushed for three touchdowns and 132 yards, Rivers connected with Tyrell Williams on two TDs and San Diego's defense sacked Mayfield five times and twice intercepted the No. 1 overall pick .The Chargers rushed for 246 yards on 36 carries, eating up yardage and time while taking some pressure off Rivers. Gordon scored on runs of 4, 10 and 11 yards for his first career three-TD rushing game."The guys up front were blocking," Rivers said. "We had a heck of a plan and they executed it. It's huge. We talk a lot about balance and I think that's what helps some of those run actions. We haven't had many days when we've ran more than we've thrown. From what I can remember, those are fun. I'll take those any time we can get them."For Mayfield, his third career start was a tough lesson. He tweaked his ankle when he slipped on the sideline in the first quarter, and Mayfield was plagued by a few costly drops, including two by rookies Antonio Callaway and Damion Ratley in the first half that could have been TDs.Rivers complimented Mayfield for battling through a difficult day."He's a gritty, tough and competitive guy," Rivers said. "He has a heck of a career ahead of him. He made some really good throws today that were close. If I wasn't pulling against him to beat him, I would've said 'You should've caught those.' There were a couple of them that I thought they should've caught Youth Trevor Williams Jersey , but I'm glad they didn't."He's going to have a heck of a career. You can just tell in the way he commands. He was running no-huddles and doing all of that in his third or fourth start. He's going to be just fine."KICK STARTFor once, the Chargers stayed between the uprights."Well, we made all of our damn kicks," Lynn said, opening his postgame news conference. "All the extra points, all the field goals, so that's improvement."Rookie Michael Badgley kicked a 44-yard field goal and made all five PATs in his debut. He was signed Thursday and filled in for Caleb Sturgis, who has a quad injury and accuracy issues.Lynn said he's comfortable with Badgley, but left his kicking plans undecided.GROUND AND POUNDCleveland's defense yielded yardage in huge chunks. The Chargers had 12 offensive plays gain more than 15 yards, with seven picking up 20 or more."They punched us in the mouth early, up on the opening drive and they were just doing some things that obviously we couldn't stop," said safety Damarious Randall, who was in position to intercept Rivers in the end zone but had the ball pulled away by Williams for a 45-yard TD.WIDE WORLDThe Browns' extensive injury issues at wide receiver worsened when Rod Streater suffered a neck injury in the first quarter. Streater's loss left Jarvis Landry, Callaway and Ratley as the only healthy receivers. Ratley briefly left in the fourth quarter with an injury but finished with six catches for 82 yards.Cleveland signed free agent Breshad Perriman on Saturday, but he hasn't had time to learn the playbook and was inactive. Rashard Higgins (knee) and Derrick Willies (broken collarbone) are both out.Jackson conceded the Browns need help."We do, but nobody is going to cry about it right now," he said. "No other team cares about what our issues are. We have to fix them, and we will. We are just getting off of a game where we did not play as well. We will look at every avenue to fix whatever we think the issues are as we move forward so I am sure we will do that."No Hardknocks, No Worries Well, I guess I’m going to have to scratch that Chargers Hardknocks appearance off my bucket list.Cable TV channel HBO decided that the most intriguing team to feature on this year’s NFL Training Camp show “Hardknocks” is the Cleveland Browns. The series takes a look into personal and professional lives of NFL players, coaches and staff, including their family life http://www.chargersfootballauthentics.com/keenan-allen-jersey-authentic , position battles, and even a rookie hazing. The show also introduces the teams’ new rookie players and how the transition into the NFL lifestyle is not always as easy as it seems. As the series nears the start of the regular season, the show documents the process of trimming down the roster to 53 players, and puts an emphasis on the conversations between the front office and the players that get released. The Chargers were one of 6 teams that were ‘eligible’ to be selected to do Hardknocks. It’s all must-see TV. And I will never get that inside look into the Chargers Training Camp. Since the shows inception in 2001, I have prayed that my beloved Chargers would be the featured team. That prayer will never be answered now. It’s too bad. Because there will be no inside look into Joey Bosa explaining hand techniques to rookie Uchenna Nwosu. I wanted to know what Joey thinks of the second round pick.Heck, I wanted to see what Bosa does off the field. I imagine Joey feels at home with the L.A beaches a quick drive away. And I hear he has a passion for cooking. I love food too. But scratch that. HBO thinks it will be more interesting to see if they can catch Browns rookie Quarterback Baker Mayfield saying something disparaging towards presumptive starting Quarterback Tyrod Taylor. I like me some Mayfield, and I was in the group that wouldn’t have minded if the Chargers drafted him if he was there at 17. But I’m a team guy, so I would have rather watched training camp of my team. Which means I will never be able to see the kind of relationship Chargers coach Anthony Lynn has with Running Back Melvin Gordon. I would have been really interested in this. Lynn used to be a running back too. So I hoped that I’d get the chance to see if Lynn really believes in him as much as he says he does. Instead, we’ll get to hear the fast talking Browns Head Coach Hue Jackson go on and on and on about how his team has a real shot at surprising people this year, all the while his seat begins to get warm as he piles on guarantees about no QB controversy, how there’s enough balls for Josh Gordon and Jarvis Landry. And I’m really not looking forward to watching Hue in a speedo jumping into a lake. But I suspect we’ll see something like that at some point. This Hardknocks has boring written all over it. What’s not boring is the Chargers secondary. You know, the bestest, most-freshest and soon to be most respected secondary in the NFL. So many angles to cover the Secondary of Shock that somebody needs to start following them around and do their own mini-series. I’m so interested to see the rookie alpha dog Derwin James interact with fellow Alpha’s Casey Hayward and Jason Verrett, and Trevor Williams and Desmond King and Jaleel Addae and鈥?see who is the real Alpha of the Alpha’s.Yeah, that would have been cool. But nope. We’re going to get a big dose of how there is a running back competition between newly acquired running backs Carlos Hyde, rookie Nick Chubb and incumbent Duke Johnson. Blah Blah Blah.I don’t even think a LeBron appearance could save this season. (Maybe it could! Pshhh, don’t tell HBO.)But maybe the most dagumit thing I am going to forever wish I could have witnessed, was a little bit of a look into the life of Chargers Quarterback and Philip Rivers. Being a father of 7 kids myself, I will never get the chance to see if I have any fathering similarities to the future Hall-of-Famer. Does he have as much trouble deciding what’s for dinner as I do? Is laundry day every day too? How does he still have time to have a romantic dinner with his wife? I will never get that chance to see any of this. Because the Chargers are going to make the playoffs this year. And then they will win the Super Bowl this year too! And it will be playoffs year after year for the rest of my life. Thus eliminating themselves from Hardknock eligibility. But, it’s the price I guess I have to pay for crossing off another thing off my bucket list: Saying the Chargers are Super Bowl Champions. I’d rather live with that.
