STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State is glad to move on to its next game after the disappointment of losing a 30-27 stunner to Central Michigan last week on an untimed final play that officials admitted they never should have awarded. At home Saturday against Pittsburgh, the Cowboys (1-1), who fell out of the Top 25, will face another difficult opponent thats off to a 2-0 start. Were looking forward to getting back to work, OSU coach Mike Gundy said. The players attitudes were really good. A good football team will be in here Saturday. Weve felt like theyre a team that should be ranked in the top 25 with what they have. It will be a real challenge for us in a lot of different areas.Pitt is coming off a thrilling 42-39 win over Penn State last week, in which it built a big early lead and held off a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt.Coach Pat Narduzzi isnt concerned with how Oklahoma State will respond, just with ensuring that his guys dial up the same intensity they did last week for a big rivalry contest.Im not worried about (Oklahoma States) mindset, I only worry about our mindset, Narduzzi said. I would guess they are going to be pretty upset and angry. Our job as coaches is to make sure that we are all up for the game. Were going to treat it just like we did last week. I told the team this is a big game because its our next game. Were going to be excited for this one.Five things to watch for on Saturday:1. RUNNING ON EMPTY: One focus for Oklahoma State this week is to get the running game back on track. After gaining just 50 yards on 26 total carries last week, with running backs carrying the ball just 15 times while quarterback Mason Rudolph threw it 44, the Cowboys are hoping for a more balanced attack that includes more success on the ground. We have to find a way to move the ball on the ground some, in order to set up everything else we do, Gundy said. Weve got to continue to get better at it. We abandoned the run too early in the last game.2. CONNERS BACK: Pitt junior running back James Conner is in fine form after missing nearly all of last season recovering from a serious knee injury and Hodgkin lymphoma. He leads the potent Pitt running game, gaining 117 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries last week, while also leading all Panther receivers with four catches for 29 yards and another score. A great story, and a good player, Gundy said of Conner. Its pretty amazing, when you watch him, to think that hes gone through that.3. CENTURY MARK: Oklahoma State sophomore receiver Jalen McCleskey enjoyed a career game against Central Michigan last week, catching 11 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, the first time this season a Cowboy hit 100 yards receiving. His previous personal bests were five receptions and 58 yards. He also returned two punts for 36 yards. They were trying to take away our outside guys and he did a great job of stepping up and moving us down the field, Rudolph said of McCleskey.4. RETURN TO SENDER: Sophomore Quadree Henderson has been a dangerous weapon for Pittsburgh as a kick returner, leading the nation with a 53.5-yard average on kick returns. He had a 96-yard return for a touchdown in the opener against Villanova and then took off on an 84-yarder in the fourth quarter last week against Penn State that set up what became the game-winning touchdown. Henderson has also thrived as a receiver, catching seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing four times for 58 yards.5. TURNOVER BATTLE: Both teams have been among the NCAAs best at creating turnovers so far this season. The Cowboys lead the nation with five fumble recoveries and are tied for sixth with six total turnovers, along with Pitt, who has recovered four fumbles and pulled down two interceptions. Panther linebacker Mike Caprara, who pounced on two of those fumbles last week against Penn State, ranks second in the nation in recoveries. http://www.steelersrookiestore.com/Steelers-Arthur-Moats-Jersey/ .Y. - Detroit goaltender Jonas Gustavsson has earned NHL first star of the week honours after winning in his first three appearances of the season. http://www.steelersrookiestore.com/Steelers-Sean-Davis-Jersey/ . Murray beat Sam Querrey 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 to clinch Britains opening-round victory against the United States on Sunday at Petco Park. "Im proud of the way Im playing just now, because I had to do a lot of work to get back to where I want to be," Murray said after celebrating with his teammates on the red clay court in a temporary stadium in left field of the downtown home of baseballs San Diego Padres. http://www.steelersrookiestore.com/Steelers-Chris-Boswell-Jersey/ .J. -- Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. http://www.steelersrookiestore.com/Steelers-Greg-Lloyd-Jersey/ . After slipping from the summit during the week, the Gunners overcame struggling Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains second-half brace. No one saw Courtney Okolo coming. The announcers had already called the 4x400-meter relay for Lancaster High School at the 2012 Texas 4A state track championships. Fans had gotten to their feet to watch Lancasters anchor leg and Baylor track commit Taije Jordan cross the finish line untouched. And even without much of a zoom on the TV feed, all the viewers at home could see was Jordan and a lot of empty track. But even though no one saw it, Jordan knew it -- Okolo was coming for her. She had told her teammates before the race that for her to outkick Okolo shed need to get the baton with a 70-meter lead -- in a 400-meter race. But even with a 70-meter lead the question was often when, not if, Okolo would come calling. And with 50 meters to go, screams erupted from the press box.Oh, my goodness, oh my goodness.Jeez, Louise.Courtney Okolo, everybody. That is video-game fast, one analyst said. Thats cheat-code fast. No, thats just Okolo. She has the kind of late-race speed that seems unnatural. While every runners legs are being dragged down by lactic acid and the muscles around their rib cages are tightening, Okolo is picking up steam. Shes fine. She appears unfazed. And one by one, she walks down opponents, seemingly operating on a different plane. Her come-from-behind win in that high school race put the state of Texas on notice then. But she has the world on notice now.In April, Okolo became the first American female collegian to ever run a sub-50-second 400-meter dash. Not even U.S. record holder Sanya Richards-Ross clocked a sub-50 during her collegiate years.Okolo owns three of the worlds top 10 times run in 2016, with her 49.71 standing as the best among American women entering the U.S. Olympic team trials in Eugene, Oregon. She holds a one-second lead between herself and the fourth-best American runner in 2016. In a race thats often decided by a tenth of a second, a one-second lead is meteoric. Even in the 800-meter race, theres only a .21-second gap between the American leader and the fourth-best runner.Texas coach Tonja Buford-Bailey saw early that Okolo was the perfect blend of an elite middle-distance runner with top-level sprinter speed -- almost a unicorn in track and field. Its not easy to find a middle-distance runner with that kind of sprinters kick or a sprinter with high-level endurance, but when you discover both -- and both at an elite level -- in a single athlete, you get Okolo.Because of that, shes kind of in a league of her own, especially at the college level. So, to keep pushing her, Buford-Bailey would have Okolo train her endurance workouts (several 200- or 300-meter intervals with short recovery breaks between) with the mens team..ddddddddddddShe can train with the guys and beat some of them, Buford-Bailey said. You see that way before she ever runs a race -- she has a special gift. Those are the kind of workouts that Okolo enjoys because it reminds her of the 4x400-meter relay. In an open 400, the race plan is very internal. You run the race based on how youre feeling and you have an opportunity to maybe play off some other runners, but when one competitor is in Lane 3 and another is in Lane 8, it lacks of the drama and excitement of Okolo and a competitor racing shoulder to shoulder for the finish. She thrives off that kind of closeness with competitors during races and workouts. Its kind of like how an animal preys on another animal, Okolo said. It knows its weakness, so itll find the right moment to attack. ... You can kind of see, Nows the right time to make a move. Its the right opportunity. So, no one shouldve been surprised when, at this years NCAA track and field championships, Texas looked completely out of contention on the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay.Though much of the focus was on Floridas Taylor Sharpe and South Carolinas Precious Holmes, who had battled to lead for most of the race, both Sharpe and Holmes knew it was only a matter of time before they saw Okolo. Its very, very scary, Holmes said. Your whole team is counting on you to run away from one of the best people in the world in the 400. Just to know that shes coming -- its very frightening. I wont lie.Okolo is the best female 400-meter runner collegiate track has ever seen, a compilation of exact training, countless races and a genetic predisposition to excel at an impossible task.Ive watched hundreds of 400-meter races, Sharpe said. When I look at hers, theres just something different. Anyone who knows anything about track, or even just a little bit about track, theyll notice that about her.Shes the one moving in hyper speed. The one whose legs dont become cinder blocks as they fill with lactate. The one who somehow has a cheat code to one of the most painful races in all of track. But, its just how Okolo is and has always been. When she finished her high school state title race, winning the 4x400-meter championship for Newman Smith High, one of the analysts said from the booth, Amazing. ... That might be a girl we see again down the road. And in reality, thats how most of her competition feels about her, too. They know that no lead is safe with Okolo on the track. Shes a runner theyll see again down the road -- most likely on that final stretch when shes just warming up.
